Dr. Paul Emilio Gaffuri, MD

We found Dr. Gaffuri by accident, as he was the pediatrician on-call at the hospital on Thanksgiving the year we had our baby. He was so kind, thorough and knowledgeable that we switched to his practice despite having already chosen a different one. We have had 2.5 years worth of appointments, both benchmark age-related appointments and last-minute ones because of illnesses. Every single time, the staff has been polite and expedient. I've called the nurses and lactation consultants dozens of times and they are always gracious and helpful. The on-call service has been responsive no matter the time of night, I believe it is staffed from an outside nursing service. They've given great advice and guidance, and if I've required a follow-up appointment the office has received copious and informative notes and is ready for the exam before we get there. This really is one of the best practices I've ever been to, and I've seen my share. Wait times are the shortest I've had anywhere, I kinda… wish they saw adults. :)

I can't figure out how this place has a 4-star rating. Every time I go I sit in the waiting room for 45+ minutes past my appt. time. When I ask the secretary why, I'm barked at like I'm somehow out-of-line for asking (but you know darn well they'd be the first to snipe if I was 45 minutes late - guess it doesn't go both ways). Once I do get in to see these people, I'm rushed in and out the door. Maybe that's why my child's medical history erroneously read that she/he has asthma...which I didn't find out about until the medical info. was released to my child's school and the nurse there questioned me about it.And, there are some serious problems with their answering service: either the service doesn't give the messages to the secretary OR the secretary doesn't return calls. They've pretty much dropped the ball in every area I can imagine. If this is what a 4-star doctor does (and it's accepted) our expectations in regards to the care of our children are seriously flawed.
