Dr. Paul Douglas Mumfrey II, MD

My first visit after being referred due to pain and some unexpected female health issues. As a cancer survivor, this was very concerning to me, especially since I had just lost my husband of 38 years less than a year ago. He always accompanied me to doctor visits, and now being in a new city with no one to go with me, I was already feeling vulnerable. On top of that, I care for my son who is paralyzed from the chest down, so I can’t afford to be sick. Dr. Mumfey immediately put me at ease. He allowed me to pull my scans up on my phone and carefully walked me through them, explaining what each number and image meant. He was knowledgeable, professional, and patient—never rushing me. He recognized my fear and reassured me in a way I could understand: “If there was a problem, this would look like this, and these numbers would be such and such.” What touched me most was his compassion. He listened to my story, leaned in at eye level, and calmly told me, “You don’t have cancer.” I broke… down in tears and hugged him without even realizing it. His calm demeanor, clear explanations, and genuine kindness created a deep sense of trust. I highly recommend Dr. Mumfrey. Personable, punctual, quick!

Horrible clinical experience with Dr. Mumfrey resulting in delay of care and second ER visit! On a Saturday morning I woke up with excruciating pain, shortness of breath, numbness of both upper/lower extremities, and chest pains and went to the ER via EMS. The diagnosis at the ER by the ER Doctor and the hospital OB/GYN was a ruptured ovarian cyst with blood leaking into my abdominal cavity which caused the excruciating pain on my pelvic and abdomen and the radiating pain through my chest and shoulders. Because I was bleeding internally my hemoglobin level kept dropping and I was held at Dell Seton for approx. 36 hours until they determined emergency surgery was not needed and my labs stabilized. All this was confirmed via CT scan, sonogram, and multiple rounds of blood work. I am a BSN RN with years of experience in different clinical settings, so I understood from a clinical perspective all that was happening and being communicated by the Doctors. On discharge from the… hospital I was told to see OB/GYN for follow up care, and timing of return to work. This is where Dr. Mumfrey comes in. Dr. Mumfrey did not view the actual imagings, dismissed the other two MD’s diagnosis, said he didn’t believe my labs from the hospital, and only read the tech’s notes from the CT scan – again he couldn’t be bothered to view it himself and relied on a lower-level tech’s notes. Dr. Mumfrey did not prescribe anything to treat my condition nor would he write either a return to work note, nor a note keeping me out of work for any length of time. Since my cyst was not cancerous he was sending me back to work immediately. The next day his office called and my labs WERE abnormal (anemic- likely related to the blood loss that he didn’t believe in), and his only advice was to “go to the ER if the pain persisted.” An MD failing to do anything and encouraging over-use of the ER. Had to go to the Seton work clinic (My employer) to see that nurse for return to work clearance. My condition had again deteriorated and that nurse encouraged me to go to the ER where I was treated again, received prescriptions and plan of care for the inflammation and timing on when to return to work. So, all the Doctors before and after Dr. Mumfrey agreed on my condition and course of treatment, gave me meaningful and timely care. Dr. Mumfrey arrogantly and ignorantly ignored the other Doctors and delayed my care and worsened my condition. I am getting appropriate care now, no thanks to Dr. Mumfrey.

Wonderful bedside manner and seems to really care about his patients.

I am 49 years old and was referred to Dr. Mumfrey when my previous OB/GYN retired (approx. 10 yrs ago) Dr. Mumfrey is great. He actually listens to your concerns and makes you feel comfortable and confident that you are getting the best care. My daughter is a patient now as well. I highly recommend him.

The first time Dr. Mumfrey saw me he spent time with me & truly showed compassion for my condition. It was determined I had an ovarian cyst. However, the last few times I have seen him he has not listened to me, & it seemed as if his goal was to get done as quick as possible. I told him I thought my vitamin D was low. I had been really tired. He did not retest my vitamin D. He blamed my tiredness on college. I had my internalist test my vitamin D. The results came back suboptimal. I now take 49,000 units of vitamin D per week. I have had a vaginal discharge for a year. I was always having to take meds to fight the discharge. It never went away. It was very painful. Last time I saw him I had just finished 12 days of meds & my test results came back negative. I suggested that the discharge was due to my birth control. Dr. Mumfrey "blew off" that idea. I went to a local doctor in my hometown. He took me off the birth control. I do not have a discharge anymore & my pain is disappearing.

Dr. Mumfrey is the best doctor I have ever had. Luckily my original ob/gyn moved out of town halfway through my first pregnancy and referred me to Dr. Mumfrey's office, otherwise I never would've found he and his wife, Dr. Grimes. Mumfrey has cared for me during the births of both of my sons and throughout each pregnancy was thorough, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, and had a sense of humor when I needed my spirits lifted. He handled the emergency delivery of my first son via c-section with the appropriate level of urgency and calm. And he was accommodating and supportive when I decided I wanted to VBAC with my second son. He is the best!! Not just a doctor, he also feels like a friend.

He is the best, he is so caring and never rushes the appointment. He takes his time and you never leave his office without a question not being answered. He listens and makes you feel at ease with all the new things going on with your body and baby. When its time for the big day he is there to make it a joyful day. He is my favorite doctor by far!

DR. Mumfrey is a great doctor. He treated me like he genuinely cared about me. I know he was always extremely busy, but he always made me feel like I was his only patient. I would recommend him to any woman. You don't get any better.
