Open heart surgery at 74 years of age...Who me? That's the medical urgency that brought me into Maimonides Hospital's consultation meeting with Dr. Paul Saunders and his Nurse Practitioner, Ms. Patricia Baptiste. I sat quietly as Dr. Saunders described all the physical complications that "may" go wrong during and after surgery...."You may suffer kidney failure, infections around the wound, heart attack or stroke and other health issues."` I wondered why I was sitting there. I felt an urgent need to run out the exit door. However, my reality..."I had no choice!" It was a do or die reality. In spite of it all, I went through with the surgery. I avoided thinking about the procedure until I was placed upon the operation table and after waking up in Intensive Care for 7 days...."Staying Alive!" During my stay in Intensive Care, I observed Dr. Saunders walking past my room when maintaining vigilance over my well-being and care. While under the care of Dr. Saunders and his… medical team, I found them to be extremely professional, honest and dependable, clear in their instructions, eager to address my concerns or issues, patient when displaying personal commitment, following through on any and all of my medical concerns in a timely way, an they made sure I understood clearly their instructions on my follow-up care. During my last and final consultation, I felt physically liberated; notwithstanding knowing the metamorphosis in my lifestyle has and must begin in order to enhance the longevity of this gift of extended life. It is less than 2 months that I write this review...and I am following through on this extended gift of life. I am thanking you, Dr. Paul Saunders, and your very personable team and Ms. Maryanne Parascando your assistant....who put up with my constant calls and concerns. It was a painful pleasure....a blessing from EARTH ANGELS.....not being religious, I realized, I actually placed my life in your hands and you didn't let me down.
