Dr. Paul W Sheffner, MD

Do not go to Dr. Paul W. Sheffner. His staff is rude and disrespectful, which is especially harmful when dealing with patients who have experienced trauma, mental illness, or severe depression. Dr. Sheffner came across as very robotic and uncaring during my visit. He showed little empathy and seemed primarily focused on prescribing medication rather than providing supportive care. I was fortunately able to find another psychiatrist who was shocked by my experience and actually helped me. I recommend avoiding this provider.

Dr. Sheffner is extremely good at what he does. He saved my life. He is compassionate, patient and empathetic. Most of all, he really listens to his patients and cares.

I love him! I've been with him for over 15 years and he has always treated me with full attention and highest amount of respect.

I am not crazy about the whole staff. I find that a couple of the women I spoke to on the phone to be rude and impersonal. I also don't care much for the waiting room. It is just dark and depressing with no windows or bright lights. As for Dr. Sheffner, I can never tell what he thinks. He just does not give much feedback, advice or has much of a personality. I just wished that it was easy to find the right Psychiatrist and staff who will take new patients as well as accept Blue Cross Blue Shield Anthem. I just don't feel like I matter at this place.

First off, the staff is beyond belief rude. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional doctor's office in my life. The location they used to be at with a different staff was a little more tolerable, but ever since they moved to Depaul, its been unbelievable. They have on more than one occasion put one date on my appointment card and a different one in their system as far as next appointment goes. Dr Sheffner himself is just plain ignorant. The definition of "pill popper" has his picture next to it in the dictionary. He doesn't care. At all. He makes rude and unprofessional comments and his questions are very robotic. He has NO sense of humor...only smiles when he thinks he's funny after he has said something offensive. I've had friends and family go there once....and never return. I don't know why I have gone so long.

In all of my life I have never seen such an unprofessional group. First of all the people taking the calls are just down right rude. They act like I am putting them out. Second, the computers go down so from what I gather there will just be no appointments set until this little problem works itself out.

I have a chronic mental ailment that requires I see my doctor on an average of once a month. Dr. Sheffner has been my psychiatrist for many years and I can say that he has made it possible for me to live a reasonably normal life. He is also a really caring physician and has always had a competent and friendly office staff.
