Dr. Penny Abigail Asbell, MD

3 1/2 wait times. This doctor has no respect for me or my time

Despite arriving on time to my appointment, I waited one hour to be called in to be seen. Once I was called in by a nurse, she checked my vision and dilated my eyes. I subsequently waited another hour or so until the ophthalmologist assistant saw me. He examined my eyes for about five minutes and left. He failed to identify himself once he entered, and he failed to turn the lights back as he left. I waited another 45 minutes or so to finally see Dr. Asbell. She examined my eyes for about 5-10 minutes before she said she would have to refer me to another specialist. During the 5-10 minutes of interaction, Ms. Asbell was professional. However, she also failed to give me any feedback whatsoever about her thoughts and observations. During the 4 hours plus that I was in Ms. Asbell's office, I was being helped probably only 40 minutes of that time. The long and constant wait to be seen was unnecessary and inconsiderate of patients' time.

She has been my eye doctor for more than 20 years and seen me through all kinds of scratched corneas, aging, fainting (because I get squeamish about eyes). She takes everything in stride, has a wonderful bedside manner and seems to be on the cutting edge of what's happening in eye care.

I have been a patient of Dr. Asbells for several years and have consistently received only the highest level of care from her and her staff. While medical appointments elsewhere tend to be quick affairs, the care of Dr. Asbell and her team tends to make appointments a little longer, but it is well worth the added attention she gives to her patients. Her corneal expertise and her true caring for her patients is why I have stayed with her for more than a decade.
