Dr. Peter Julian Liepmann, MD

I’ll never forget his advice to me when I asked for a referral to see a Therapist. Not verbatim because it was 30 years ago. He told me all I needed was Xanax and Prozac, and to speak with him as a counselor. After becoming physically dependent on Xanax, he dropped me as his patient. I am disabled today.

I had Dr. Liepman as my physician in Highland, NY Besides his rude arrogance, wrong diagnoses and pill pushing, I feel he was negligent. For example, I was sick in bed for a solid 7 days with a horrendous migraine and couldn't even keep water down. I was too sick to eat and I would throw up the water as soon as I drank it. I just laid in bed with my head pounding. Back then you needed your primary's approval before going to the E.R and he refused to approve it. I lost 15 lbs, was emaciated, and severely dehydrated, and that idiot refused my going to the E.R. and I couldn't afford to pay out of pocket. Then, one day he refused to have me as a patient anymore because I pointed out to him that he "diagnosed" me before I even told him what my symptoms were. He pulled-out-of-thin-air that I had "panic attacks", which I didn't, and then got rude because I pointed out that I hadn't given him my symptoms yet. He told me to find another Dr. and kicked me out of his office. Most of his… staff were rude to me as I left. Even a local pharmacist had an argument with him about a prescription and he then hung up a sign in his office stating that he refused to deal with that pharmacy anymore .... wow, that's professional! Good luck with him California !!!!

Very bad experience. He insisted on chalking up my migraines to depression, which I've never had. It was not the only wrong diagnosis he made. He loved to prescribe so much that by mid-year my insurance maximum for medications was used up. Also, a lot of the meds were for something completely different than the problem he was prescribing for (always said "we found out by accident that it also treats this problem" Huh?) He seemed to feel that he was an expert on everything no matter how complex. He's fine if all you have is a cold, but for real medical problems, stay away.

He totally missed my diagnosis of pneumonia and I almost died 5 days later. He didn't have hospital privileges and he was treating me for exercise induced asthma not the COPD that I had. I have been left very disabled by the wrong diagnosis and was never sent to a specialist for a diagnosis.

Dr. Liepmann was a great Dr. I wish he was back in Highland or close by so I could continue to see him. He always listened, he was willing to explain everything, and give you all the info you needed to make a decision. He allowed his patients to be part of the team, and not dictate treatment. As for him treating many things, yes he did, and it saved a lot of money for me by not having to see specialists all the time. If it was something that needed a specialist attention, then he would say that as well. I have a great deal of respect for him, and would go to him if he was anywhere within an hr of my home.

I was with Dr. Liepmann for 15 years before he went north and I will never find another Dr. that I trust as much as him. He listens to your concerns. Spends as much time with you as you need. Always treats you with respect. And will send you to a specialist if needed. I never minded the wait because I knew he was doing for somebody else what he was doing for me. All I know is he saved my life more than once. We miss and love you Dr. Liepmann!

Dr. Liepmann is one of very few Drs. who will actually listen to what you have to say and your concerns. Wait time is only 3 stars because he will take as much time as he needs with a patient to explain everything and make sure you understand what it means. Yes, he would give medication upon medication until he finds one that will work for you. I'm sure my wife and I aren't the only ones who miss him down here and please come back whenever you are ready Dr. Liepmann. Thank-you so much for caring for the individual rather than the patient. I agree Sarah, anyone that cannot get along with him should go to the vet!

Dr. Liepmann was our family doctor for many years. My biggest complaint was the wait time. However, it was worth it; I knew he was giving someone the same careful attention I would soon receive. Dr. Liepmann really took the time to talk to patients and ask many questions. I liked that he would talk directly to my kids when they were the patient. After many many questions, he would then spend time explaining his findings frequently drawing pictures to help us understand. I always felt heard and his diagnosis right on. Sometimes he seemed so focused in talking with us he would loose track of time. He seemed to have a system set up where by his staff would gently knock on the door to remind him another patient was waiting. When my daughter broke her arm he was quick to refer us to another doctor as he said the break was such he wasn't comfortable dealing with it. He did prescribe something for her pain so she was more comfortable until she could be seen by and orthopedic doctor. … He had many many tricks to help children deal with various procedures. We have not been able to find another doctor we like as well in our area since he moved north.

He is not inclined to refer his patients to specialists, preferring to treat everything himself. This includes frequently assigning you oddball diagnoses, including psychiatric, that will stay on your record. He tried to bully and coerce me into New Agey 'healing' methods that I did not trust or want. He bombards you with multiple medications, which can drain your annual pharmaceutical allotment very quickly. Throw in a disorganized office that routinely lost insurance paperwork, and a very arrogant attitude on his part. I'd rather have my veterinarian treat me than this doctor.
