Dr. Peter Stephen Lorman, MD

After crashing my motorcycle in the orange groves of Santa Paula many years ago, I was transported to a nearby medical facility where X-rays confirmed I had really smashed my foot badly and broke several bones. The Dr looking at the x-rays said the only thing that could be done was to put pins in my toes and put something like a halo around the foot and attach wires to each toe and "pull" everything into place...no surgery needed. He did however suggest my foot would be a real mess afterwards and probably not work too well given the amount of damage. Thanking him nicely, I said since I lived in Torrance, I was sure there would be an Orthopedic Dr there that would do a little more that do a little dance and shake his little bag of bones over the injury. My In laws drove all the way up and retrieved my wife and me and off we went to Torrance Memorial hospital. Went in to Emergency and met the ER Doctor who happened to be DR Lorman...talk about luck. by now my foot was the size of a… foot ball and thus far I had been given nothing for pain. He looked at my X-rays, took some more then pronounced this will be a "piece of cake"! Due to the "Doctors strike" at the time, I had to wait a few days to get approved for surgery. That taken care of and into surgery I went. After the crash, I had been up staggering around helping my wife who had been knocked out in the crash. It turns out the walking on the foot coupled with all the damage to the bones kind of ground up a bunch of stuff including nerves. I got to be his first "customer" he put a fiberglass cast on, between the two of us , we got it pretty close. Unfortunately, I needed to get back to work which at the time wa custom painting . Couldn't do that using a cane, so I hopped around on one leg, He later fitted a wooden sort of a shoe so I could at least rest the foot for some ballance. Stupid ne I put way too much weight on it and broke both pins he had put in the bones . Figured I was in deep poop with him as I had screwed up his work....wrong, just more surgery to remove the pins. Through all of this and countless trips to his office for many more things I screwed up over these intervening years, he has taken care of many family members as well as several friends. Yes, some tell me he can be a little curt at times, personally, I think he has a great sense of humor and a very quick wit. He doesn't mince words, he doesn't take well to someone that doesn't do what he says they need to do...Big surprise!. My foot is still attached to me, it has been working fine and I suspect it will be fine till pass away. His associates have also worked on me and Dr Purne replaced both of my wife's hips which are working well. In short, he has been a fantastic Doctor for us, we have been friends for many years and and we recommend him without reservation

I would not recommend him for a broken wrist

Had injured some part on my left leg after pushing a cart up a driveway to my car from a market. My leg simply began to flop. Was taken to the, so called, #1 Ortho Hospital in LA where they had no clue, wrapped my leg and sent me on my way. Then, went to an Ortho Clinic a few days later when there was no improvement. They wrapped my foot and leg, did not diagnose and sent me on my way with pills. After no improvement or understanding, went to Dr. Lorman. He diagnosed me correctly after one simple test. It was basically, what he called, a "football injury", had been wrapped incorrectly, I had been given the wrong meds to reduce inflammation and he corrected all of that with one 10 min. visit. Extremely grateful to him. Yes, he seems abrupt, and this, I understand, concerns people. I had been forewarned and was not in the least bit, offended as I saw that he was caring concerned, efficient, just not "fluffy"... at all. A few years later I was, again, misdiagnosed as having arthritis… in my knee joint. The doctor had showed me the x-ray and explained why he was certain that was the cause of my pain. Yet, he gave me trouble about getting a copy of my x-ray so I could get a second opinion. I finally got the x-ray as it was my right to pay for and receive a copy. I took it to Dr. Lorman, he had his staff take their own x-ray to compare. When all was done and we were in consultation, he asked who told me I had arthritis. I told him the doctor in my GP group to whom I was referred. He simply turned to me and said, "He be wrong." Very simple, to the point. Gave me the right meds, the right treatment and I was back to 100% within the week. I have gone to Dr. Lorman as my second (and so far, always correct) opinion as I was limited to whom I could see because of the insurance that I had at the time. I have had two broken ankles from an serious accident and because of him, I walk perfectly and with little to no pain after being told I would not walk without a limp for the rest of my life due to the severity of the injuries. Dr. Lorman offered much more hope and much better practices than the numerous physical therapists I had been to after my accident not to mention the orthopedist who handled my accident. She had a great smile, was friendly, but, offered zero hope and little help in bringing me to the best form I could be in following my accident. I am forever grateful to Dr. Lorman. He may not have that warm, inviting, cheerful manner like the other doctors, each of whom failed me, however, he was always spot on, and because of him, my ankles, tendons, knees and other injuries have all healed correctly because of his knowledge and care. I came to know of him, years ago, when he operated on a friend. It was supposed to be a simple procedure, but, once he saw that it was not going to be "typical" and needed the expert skills of someone who knew about the intricacies of the vascular system, he left surgery to call the another surgeon or she may have lost the use of that limb. Even my friend knew that it would/could have gone much differently had he truly been arrogant. Dr. Lorman always gave me realistic hope. He would not tell me I was going to be perfect, but, he would give me the heart to improve to the best of my ability, never saying, as others would say, "Well, that's as good as you're ever going to be." So very, very grateful....

No explanation of treatment. I think he thinks I just want pain drugs. Very dismissive.

No nonsense doc kiked him very much!!!

He failed to do an MRI on my knee prior to surgery, believing that I only had a torn meniscus. Then, during surgery, he found that my ACL had been torn. Thus, I had to undergo another surgery. He was rude, arrogant, and dismissive as well. Highly unrecommendable.

When our family did not sign the arbitration agreement at the front desk, we were left in the examining room for approx 45minutes. Dr. Lorman came in and asked why we would not sign. We told him it is not our policy to release anyone from liability for malpractice. We have never signed one to that dat and have not signed one with ANY of our family physicians. We have never sued a physician. The doctor examined my family member quickly and said nothing further. A cold hearted reception. This is afther he had been our orthopedic doctor for over 10 years. But no longer. In addition, I note he is NOT board certified in orthopedics at all. But every thing he advertises and puts on his door say orthopedic surgeon. Has he ever been trained in a residency or fellowship in orthopedics? WATCH OUT !!
