Peter McSweeney, MD, joined the Rocky Mountain Blood and Marrow Transplant Program now known as the Colorado Blood Cancer Institute in 2004. Dr. McSweeney is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and hematopathology. Dr. McSweeney hails from New Zealand. He earned his medical degree at University of Otago Medical School in Dunedin, New Zealand. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowships in oncology/hematology and clinical hematology and hematopathology at Wellington Public Hospital in New Zealand. Dr. McSweeney then came to the United States, completing fellowships in clinical hematology, hematopathy and oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. After finishing his fellowships, Dr. McSweeney worked in clinical research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center for seven years. During this time, he also served as an instructor in medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine where he became an assistant professor …of medicine. Dr. McSweeney was the clinical director and laboratory medical director at the University of Colorado's Blood and Marrow Transplant Program. Dr. McSweeney has been published numerous times and won many awards for his work in blood and marrow transplantation.

Dr. McSweeney and his team treated me last year for non-Hodgkins lymphoma and I am here today because of him and them. First class operation with measurably wonderful results.

Very caring ,courteous , professional . Also thorough on treatment and management. Staff was wonderful! And wonderful to my family. Even treated my Down syndrome niece like a princess :)

In Dec 2004 I was diagnosed with Stage IV non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma throughout my body, an aggressive abdominal mass throughout my abdomen which compromised my left kidney and shut it down, with metastasis to the bone marrow. I volunteered for experimental treatment for 6 months and that bought me nine months. I then had a recurrence in 2005 and was a patient of Dr. McSweeney for a autologous stem cell transplant. Two months in Denver two states away from home. It was a rough time but I am alive today and thriving. I recommend this to anybody that is willing to fight for their life, tragically, not all those that fight this disease live but I encourage all to attempt it no matter how difficult because you might survive. Dr. McSweeney deals with dying patients in this field and his care made me a SURVIVOR.
