Dr. Peter Dow Murray, MD

This guy is SMART! I just started seeing him after ten years of failed diagnosis anywhere else..I suffered so long! Now I have hope. But, I’m willing to put in the work in therapy too..so it helps to have a good doctor/patient relationship. I consider him a Gift at this point with my accurate diagnosis-arrogant or not!

Peter Murray lacked so many traits that any good psychiatrist should have. He did not come off as empathetic in the slightest and he acted extremely arrogant, passive aggressive, and rude during our session. He did not seem invested or interested in what I was sharing and he was almost mocking in his replies. He even blamed me for taking a medication that my own general practitioner prescribed. I would not recommend Peter Murray’s services in the slightest and I was feeling even worse after my session, which is the opposite of how a psychiatrist should make a patient feel. My first session was the last and I would never see him again. One’s mental health is too important to risk putting in the hands of somebody like Peter Murray.

Actual quote from this doctor at my last appointment. This man is not only condescending and arrogant, he repeatedly contradicts himself and has no recollection of what he’s advised you to do in your previous appointments.

Dr. Murray is kind and compassionate. He is diligent in including the patient in his/her own treatment plan and he gives choices/options to promote this. I am grateful to be in his care; I have been dealing with mental health professionals for 40 years and they are not all like this. Happy to have found him!

Dr. Murray is outstanding. He is kind, compassionate, listens, and thoroughly explains his philosophy and strategy for psychiatric treatment. He emphasizes that his goal is to thoroughly understanding me as a person, not just as a symptomatic patient. I feel like he genuinely cares and wants to know all the life circumstances, physical and psychological health issues, and past experiences which brought me to his care. I am quite confident in working with him because of his experience, knowledge, and his approach that is open-minded yet skeptical. I feel mutual trust and authentically heard how in difficult conversation he does not patronize or minimize but also speaks very bluntly about life, and even share in laughter or sorrow. It seems so many other psychiatrists take a "flowchart" approach toward treating your symptoms, but Dr. Murray understands that our lives are much more complex and he puts in the time and effort it takes to find care that will really make a difference. In… fact, he did not write any prescriptions at first in order to take the time for us both to work through things and understand my issues. I have a history of depression, painful chronic illness, and recently a major psychological crisis, so I am very grateful to be in his care and look forward to working with him to find the best life I can live.

I switched to Dr. Murray after seeing another psychiatrist for 10+ years. Dr. Murray quickly diagnosed (and I think, correctly) my mental health condition and advised that I had been prescribed the wrong medicine based on a faulty diagnosis by my previous psychiatrist. So far I am quite satisfied with his advice, which should also reduce deleterious effects of the wrongly prescribed medicine.

Dr Murray really took the time to understand my life challenges and was not quick to prescribe medication. He listened to my challenges and was not quick to prescribe medications based on some generic protocol ( compared to other caregivers). Willing to invest the time to help make you better. Highly recommend Dr Murray!

I previously saw other caregivers who were quick to prescribe meds and follow some generic protocol vs getting to know me. Big Thumbs up!!!

I took my daughter to see Dr. Murray as she was struggling with anxiety and an eating disorder. He was very empathetic and easy to talk to. Made himself available and took the time to help us explore options instead of just medicate and get going. Offered to continue to be part of her support team and monitor her progress. My daughter liked him instantly.

It’s tough finding a new doctor let alone a psychiatrist who you will share intimate parts of your life with. I found Dr. Murray to be empathetic, genuine, and grounded in an evidence-based, patient-centered approach. He took time to find out about me and didn’t make generalized assumptions about what I need to feel healthy. And perhaps most importantly, he has a sense of humor. Humor is essential in these crazy times!
