Dr. Peter Tang, MD

Dr. Tang was in charge of residents that treated me in the ER for a shoulder dislocation. These residents tried many, many times to get my arm in the socket to no avail. They were on the phone with someone who was directing them (assuming Dr. Tang). Even after the ER doctor said I could have not have any more Propafol, they tried 3 more times while I was awake. My arm was on fire. I was admitted. I had a CT Scan done the next day. I had an MRI done after that. Noone came to tell me what these tests showed. The day after that, I was told I was being discharged and to make a follow up visit with Dr. Tang in 2 weeks. I could see my arm was still out of socket and my arm was on fire. The resident could not tell me what was wrong with me and he said Dr. Tang had left for the day. I left AGH and went to GPOA. Dr. Mulholland got my MRI and said my arm would never have gone in because the biceps tendon had slipped into the socket. He fixed my shoulder and biceps tendon but after a… nerve study said I had nerve damage. I could not move my arm/hand. He ordered therapy. I also did acupuncture. Feeling/function slowly came back except to my hand. I was sent back to Dr. Tang because I was told he was an expert at hands. My first visit to his office, he maligned GPOA - said they "cherry pick their patients" and only take the easy cases. I will say this: Dr. Mulholland had no idea what he was getting into when I called but he took my case. Dr. Tang ended up ordering me more therapy. I could not close my fingers. My hand was like a paddle. At one year from the accident, he did surgery on my hand. I had 86 stitches - 5 or 6 on each side of my knuckles. Again I went to therapy. I still had no real function of my hand. My last appointment with Dr. Tang, he told me that there were appliances (special utensils) I could purchase to help me. I ended up the following year seeing another orthopedic doctor (Miladore) who did another nerve study. He said it showed I had a pinched Ulnar Nerve. Did anyone ever look into this? No. My Median Nerve was also damaged - probably from scar tissue. I've had 3 surgeries - one to unpinch my ulnar nerve, one similar to carpal tunnel surgery for my Median Nerve and another to clean out the scar tissue that had resulted from the previous surgery on my knuckles. Too much time had elapsed to get a good result on the Ulnar Nerve. It no longer burns but I feel numbness constantly. I am now able to somewhat close my hand and I have limited movement of my fingers. My experience with Dr. Tang was not good. Some humbleness instead of the arrogance may have given me a better impression.

For the past two years I have suffered with severe trigger finger in both my right and left middle fingers. Dr. Tang was recommended to me on separate occasions by two of my neighbors. I did research and chose Dr. Tang. He listened to my concerns. He sent me for tests. He gave me recommendations and options. I chose to get cortisone injections in both middle fingers. Dr. Tang did the first set. Within a week my right hand was significantly better. The left took about three weeks. The effects lasted 3 months. I went back to get a second round of shots. Dr. Tang's Assistant administered this round. She was spot on with both injections. I'm hoping to avoid surgery. They are working with me towards this goal. Dr. Tang and his staff are professional and personable. I hope this helps you. I highly recommend them.

I was referred to Dr. Tang, by my family doctor. I was having issues with my shoulder and my fingers locking when I tried to open my hand. First visit was like I was going to him for years, from his nurse, to his PA, to the doctor, they were friendly, professional and truly care about my problems, The doctor gave me shots in my shoulder and hand, they relieved the pain. He took time to talk to me not only about what the next step in treatment, but we talked about personal things as well. I drove 73 miles to see him and am very glad I did.

I had a relatively minor surgery to fix my thumb and Dr. Tang did an excellent job. He is very skilled and intelligent and inspired my confidence that he knew exactly what was wrong and how to fix it. His P.A. and other staff are all wonderful and helpful and inspired my confidence as well. I would go back without hesitation.

I first met Dr. Tang in 2019 when my husband was experiencing carpal tunnel discomfort. I found both Dr. Tang and his staff to be courteous, helpful, and professional. When I subsequently fell and shattered my left wrist, there was no question in my mind that Dr. Tang was the physician I wanted to bring me back to health. When I called Dr. Tang’s office, they fit me into their schedule immediately. Dr. Tang set the bone and applied the splint himself there in the office until he could get me in for the initial surgery I would need. His team made certain I left the office with full instructions on how to prepare surgery – and they had me scheduled and ready to go in only few days’ time. On the day of surgery, Dr. Tang made sure to speak personally with both me and my husband before and after the 3 ½ hour procedure. I was sent home with phone numbers to use if needed; when I had occasion to call those numbers for pain management or with wound-related questions, I received immediate… return calls from Dr. Tang and/or his staff. Follow-up appointments were efficient and I felt no hesitation contacting the team in the interim with questions. Dr. Tang and his team members listened to my concerns and answered my questions completely and in a way I could easily understand. I felt that everyone there was truly interested in making certain my recovery was as complete and as smooth as it could possibly be. My injury was substantial – and I have been in and out of surgery and Dr. Tang’s offices for a full year. My hand and wrist feel stronger each day, and I am back to many of my usual routines and pastimes. Frankly, I find it hard to imagine a more positive, caring, and medically excellent doctor and team.

Dr. Tang is highly regarded by his peers. I found him to be a good diagnostician and he approached my injury with conservative treatment, but ultimately surgery was needed to correct it. He's very efficient, responsive to questions, and provides good follow-up.

I was stabbed in the neck, suffering a severe brachial plexus injury. I could not move my left arm or hand at all, it just hung at my side. I am an artist, mother of two and rely greatly on my hands. Dr Tang and his staff were absolutely amazing with my care. I am saddened by some of these reviews that say he has poor bedside manner. I did not find this with him at all. He is in fact very straightforward and to the point, but this does not mean that he does not care. I found him to be very patient with my questions and takes the time to explain procedures. My injuries took several surgeries to repair, but I now have the use of my arm and hand to where I can enjoy doing my artwork again. I highly recommend his skills as a surgeon.

Saw him for an injured thumb due to a fall and wasnt getting better. Manage to talk him into an mri when he kept telling me it was fine and i dont need it. Got results and ripped ligament which requires surgery to fix. He told me that i just want to have surgery is why im here and that he will do the surgery but hes not going to do anything once he cuts me open thats its just going to be a placebo affect and that i just wanna have surgery. Who "WANTS" to have surgery!!!! Dont got to him and dont let him do any surgerys on you!!

My recent experience with this doctor was horrible. My problem is not related to a broken bone and not easily diagnosed. He did not want to take the time to understand my condition, symptoms or history. When attempting to discuss the problem with this doctor, he became irate. Yelling at me that he did not like my attitude. He threatened to have me physically removed from the office. He opened the door of the exam room and told me to leave or he would have me escorted out. Then he started yelling for security. Unbelievable. Days later and I am still in shock. Please think twice before considering this doctor for your care.

He has ZERO people skills. Out of 7 surgeries he never came to speak to us but 1 time! He'd send someone else that didn't have info & they'd tell us they'll look at his dictation once transcribed & get back to us. The 1 time we saw him he tried to disregard me & my questions and I had to force the issue. He insisted my husband must have been on heroin when he passed out even though he knew he was prescribed Vicodin (they both appear the same on urinalysis). He then sneakily got him to go to a pain management doc that told him please don't do heroin, you’re a nice guy and I'd hate to see you go down that road. WTF. I question how well he knows his field honestly with all the surgeries he's had to have. Was it for the money? At least 3 of them not much progress was made if any. They took his staples out too quickly in my opinion with nothing to replace it. He had a big area of fresh tissue stapled in & then a muscle flap on top of the new tissue. The new tissue attached to his arm has… done very well but the muscle flap came undone. Shouldn't they have secured it temporarily in a different fashion? I'm no doctor but what did he expect to happen with a piece of muscle that wasn't attached to anything & hadn't adhered to the surrounding flesh - which was also trying to adhere to the rest of the arm?
