Dr. Peter Broun Weber, MD

Dr. Weber may be the Alfred E. Neuman of neurosurgeons - What, me worry? I have been in excruciating pain since he performed a minimally-invasive laminectomy in 2011; during the procedure he shaved off too much bone which caused L2 to immediately collapse onto L3, resulting in severe and progressive thoracolumbar scoliosis. When I told him my pain was worse than before the surgery, he said, "I did my job. If it didn't work out for you, it's not MY fault." Then he essentially blamed me for having had the wrong surgery - I should have gotten a fusion, not a laminectomy. When my pain management doctor saw the results of Dr. Weber's handiwork on my spine he said, "I am really, really disappointed in him." I was forced to take a disability retirement due to my inability to sit or stand for any length of time and have struggled financially as a result. The resulting lack of resources has made it impossible for me to obtain the supportive care I need. My mistake was believing any number… of things - that Dr. Weber is a competent professional, that he wants to help his patients, and that he is accountable for what he says and does. A little effort will reward you with many similar stories of damaged patients. Due to the cap on medical malpractice claims, it is virtually impossible to get compensated for the damage he does. Get another opinion, and take it.

Dr Weber recommended that I get a laminectomy due to severe spinal stenosis. Before the surgery I had had some back pain and one sciatic attack, which lasted a week. After the surgery I developed severe chronic lower back pain and had several sciatic attacks on both left and right sides. The sciatic attack on the right side has become chronic and at times crippling. The surgery has destroyed my life. I have become dependent on oxycodone in order to do everyday activities. Without the oxycodone I cannot function at all. Dr Weber took no responsibility for the damage his surgery did. He recommended "pain management" and wanted nothing more to do with me. I truly regret ever having listened to him. Since the surgery, I found out that surgery should have been the "last" option. There were other treatments I should have tried before resorting to surgery! Now it seems there is little hope that I will ever recover....thanks to Dr Weber, I will probably be in chronic pain for the rest of my… life. My legs have become so weak that I fear I may become crippled in the near future. Let this be a warning to anyone who considers getting a laminectomy! "Failed back surgery syndrome" is more common than the surgeons are willing to admit. When I mentioned to Dr Weber that his surgery may have failed, he refused to even acknowledge the possibility!

I made a 13 hr. RT drive to see Dr. Weber and found him a patient and kind doctor who impressed me with his confidence and knowledge of cervical condition. I would trust him if surgery needed. Great staff supporting him too!

I have not had my scheduled surgery yet, but feel confident and safe to be in Dr Weber's hands. He's a highly regarded neurosurgeon, yet I could talk to him and make jokes which he seemed to like. Normally, I would not waste a second of a doctor's time (his caliber), but he's a genuine human being and displays warmth as well as courtesy.

Dr. Weber asked me to show up for a surgery scheduled for 2PM at 11AM, so I changed my plans and came in as soon as I could. I was then kept waiting for 3 hours without explanation. When my wife asked him about the delay he just said "so what?". Now I assume that he had a good reason for asking me to come in early and that he had a good reason for being late, but I cannot see any reason for the lack of explanation nor for the callous remark which he made in response to my wife's inquiry.

It is no overstatement when I say it is due to his and his surgery teams skills that I am walking and leading a normal life today!
