Dr. Philip Kenneth Capp, MD

A few year years ago, I experienced a back fracture caused by overuse in sport climbing and a genetic defect. I was a young, healthy 24 year old who bent over funny and suddenly found myself unable to sit up or walk. I was carried to the hospital in pain I had never experienced before, where I was given strong medications for muscle spasm and pain. Nothing was done at the ER to triage the sudden failure of my back - I was told to follow up with a doctor for diagnosis and pain management. This is what led me to see Dr. Capp. At this point I could barely walk and basically had to drag myself into his office. Instead of helping, Dr. Capp immediately assumed I was a drug seeker and began asking about my mental health (I was a young professional with no history of mental health or drug issues, no recent catastrophic events other than the back injury, etc). He didn’t even refer me to x-rays and instead suggested a therapist. He prescribed a small amount of tramadol which was extremely… insufficient for managing the amount of pain I was in, and nothing for my muscle spasms. I don’t know what I did wrong at this appointment for Dr. Capp to determine me unworthy of his help, but my lack of diagnosis led to a lot of issues for me. I had ongoing back pain for about a year that I tried to manage without medical help because I was so frustrated by my experience. I eventually ended up seeking out PT for myself, found a therapist who recognized something was wrong, and was referred to a specialist who finally diagnosed me. Shortly after this, I experienced a second back fracture in the same location and now manage chronic back pain years later. This is years in the past now, but I still think sometimes about the Dr. Capp as the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor and how incredibly condescending he was to me at a very difficult point in my life. I sometimes wonder if things would have turned out differently and if my back would be a bit easier to manage if I had gotten timely help. I found myself thinking about it again this morning and suddenly felt I should write a review. Luckily, since I’m not a drug abuser, I still have some of the tramadol he was so concerned about prescribing me saved in case of emergency. I was able to use it to look him up and write this review. Hopefully Dr. Capp’s bedside manner and respect for patients has improved in the years since we met, but if given the option I would personally choose anyone else.

I met Dr Capp when I had to go in for an issue and my PCP was on vacation. It was a very busy day at the clinic, but I didn't mind waiting. I was a bit shocked that Dr Capp roomed me himself, and did my vitals. He apologized for the long wait, and said he wanted to get me in as he knows that I work in the hospital and that my time was valuable. While I greatly appreciated this very sweet gesture, I don't expect it, especially when I am getting health care at my place of employment. That left a very good first impression, as I was kinda hesitant to meet a new MD. It was all wonderful from there. He really took the time to listen to my concerns, he is very straight forward, but not in a mean way. He never made you feel like a number or less than human. Things are explained in a manner in which you will understand, but he is quite eloquent as well. Dr Capp is very compassionate, and has wonderful bedside manner. He's very much up to date on all the medical tests and technology and will… work with you on getting you better and preventing disruptions to your health. He also is quick to respond via MyChart, and addresses all concerns and questions in a timely manner. He's offered care for me after my husband and I conceive, as he does OB/GYN too, as much as I love for him to do that I promised my PCP that I would choose her. I am also a bit old fashioned but I prefer that kind of care to a female provider. Other than that Dr Capp is top notch!

I have tried numerous doctors after leaving a domestic violence relationship that ended me being addicted to opiates. I never feel ashamed to tell him the truth(unlike all preceding doctors I only lied to). I am so excited that I can go to one doctor that treats and listens and makes himself human.....instead of jumping around to as many as 5 doctors at once. I have developed trust issues because of the DV but somehow, some way he made me feel at ease, safe and "normal" even in my crazy life.

Dr. Capp, thank you for delivering my baby and helping me with my addiction. No one else would believe in me and give me support you did. You saved my life.

He really listens. He is very direct. He doesn't cut corners and he won't pull punches. He's helped me in ways no one else could . Not pushy but a straight shooter. His staff is very nice.

I have the pleasure of working with Dr. Capp on a professional basis, and I was compelled to write this as I was looking up his number for another of my patients. Dr. Capp is like doctors were in the old days, when they made house calls. He doesn't do that, but he seems like the kind of doctor who would. He exhibits genuine concern, his savvy approach with patients lets them know he understands thier issues, and they are in good hands. He is compassionate, caring and available. His refreshing approach and patient-centered practice demonstrates excellence.
