Dr. Philip Conklin Haines, MD

My name is David. I was born in 1976--the staff may know who I am from that but others shouldn't. I was diagnosed with ADD in the early 1980s and prescribed Ritalin, then a relatively new treatment. My mother didn't like it, but my guardians were my grandparents. The therapy worked out really well, so that I didn't have to go into a special school because of my behavioral problems. I got off the Ritalin by the time I went into college, to complete a Bachelors program without medication. My AD[H]D today doesn't get in the way of life, and I have a job where I use my college experience. Dr. Haines treated me where others failed, and I had seen many doctors around the state of Michigan; I was a problem child, but my grandparents and the good doctor didn't give up. Today I feel pretty normal, and I thank God for everyone's determination to this end. :)

Dr. Haines is known for over prescribing medication to his patients. Proceed with caution! Do not become an abused patient because Dr. Haines is over prescribed you. As a patient in his care, I did NOT question his judgement and I followed his plan. Over the course of two years, I found myself addicted to stimulants and dependent upon his care. Dr.Haines practices continued care, however he does not practice the law associated with being a continued care provider.

Talks super slow and asks irrelevant questions. Not good diagnostician. Returns calls days afterward.

Kind and compassionate. NEVER on time. Accuracy of diagnosis highly questionable. Seems personally troubled. Could not recommend.

Physician and staff are very odd and unprofessional. The office is very dirty and cluttered. Dr. Haines is pleasant but seems physically uncomfortable and distracted during our visit. Would not recommend for a family or child to see.

TERRIBLE bed side manner.

Dr. Haines does what is in the best interests of the patient. In addition to his excellent clinical skills, he partners with clients and listens. He is not didactic or judgmental. He works to optimize treatment. He has served our family for 17 years. When we first moved to the area, I was relieved that we were able to find a psychiatrist who would see us before our son's stimulants ran out at the end of the month. A pediatrician or PCP would not not have felt experienced enough to prescribe at the dosage levels or combinations of medications my son requires. I like that Dr. Haines does not require that a therapist meet with you, first, to qualify you. You talk directly with him. If it weren't for his excellent clinical skills, continuity of care, and several letters he has written on our young adult son's behalf, I am sure our son would either be homeless or in jail, instead of living independently. Dr.H. has stuck with us through good times and bad, financially. I am grateful… he accepted our son back after our son aged out of our insurance. It was impossible for our son to get stimulants as an adult in public systems. He had tried over and over and over again, only to be turned away. Dr. H. has been there for us, no matter what, which is especially important when people are going through difficult times. Knowing someone else believes in you helps you believe in yourself.
