Dr. Philip Stanley Eichling, MD

Really good doc takes time to explain. Solved my snoring problem with cpap. The overnight session is kind of a pain but necessary to diagnose the problem(s) properly. Seems like a lot of cranky people have reviewed this guy. Must be lack of sleep or they are just whiners to begin with. I thought everything went well.

I have fairly severe, complex sleep apnea (i.e., a mixture of obstructive and central apneas, plus some hypopnea). After a sleep study, he put me on a cpap that addresses all of these issues and was very straightforward and humorous in the time that I've spent with him.

I went to Dr. Eichling as I have an insomnia problem and my primary suggested I might have sleep apnea. Dr. Eichling sent me to a sleep clinic where they put electrodes all over my head and studied me sleeping for 7 hours. He called and I went in at which time he said I had sleep apnea and terrible restless leg syndrome. He put me on a CPAP machine which makes you feel like you are in a convalescent home and gave me restless leg syndrome medicine. Then he monitored me with appts. over a year. He put a computer disc in the CPAP machine which monitored my sleep and he would take this each time and read it and then give it back to me for the machine. After 6 mos. I asked him what I could do about my apnea as I may be without insurance soon. He flippantly said, "Well, in your case, it's mild, just take a decongestant pill and sleep on your side." OMG. It's mild, then why???? Next visit, he sent me to sleep study again, called me in and said I didn't have any symptoms of sleep apnea… or restless legs. He previously had told me that Medicare pays him for sleep apnea clients. Oh, I thought, how does one suddenly not have sleep apnea or restless legs anymore. He got medicare from me for 1 year. Draw your own conclusions as I have drawn mine. Also, I was told by a pharmacist that restless leg syndrome medicine has severe side effects. Thank you Dr. Eichling for a medicine that is has severe side effects that I didn't need.

Dr. Eichling is nice enough and listens but likes to push pills. He is an average doctor. I was told repeatedly that I did not have sleep apnea because I was not over weight or fit the stero type. His office staff, two ladies and one dog are rude and lazy. The office staff told me the wrong labs and I did not discover this until I ordered a copy of them myself. When dealing with patients who are not getting enough sleep it is good practice to call and remind the patient of their scheduled apt. but this is not their practice because they are too busy talking to friends on the phone, eating and playing with the dog. The office stinks of strong Plug-In's flower scents that will give you a headache in the 15 minutes you wait to see the doctor. Maybe the scent is to hide the animal feces smell. After my sleep study, personal items were forgotten as I hurried out of my room due to an expensive, sleepless night due to loud techs and bright constant light. The doctor did discover I HAVE… sleep apnea but only offered medicines. I am currently researching another doctor hoping for better results. If you want medicines and a continued sleepless nights this is your man!

Dr. Eichling is a very compassionate and down to earth. He has a great bedside manner and I've seen many, many, doctors. He has tried me on many meds and follows up with my care very well.

Physician's wife works in office - a "I married a doctor" snobby attitude. Called in prescription to wrong pharmacy, so I was without meds for 10 days, which caused me to go into withdrawal. No apologies, or explanations. Rude. I asked whether she had any medical background, and she claimed she was a "nurse." But checking the records of the Arizona nursing board showed she had now renewed her nursing license in at least 5 years. Subsequently, I received a letter from the doctor stating I was being dropped from the practice. I was not provided any reason for this treatment. I would give this practice a definite thumbs down. Unprofessionalism by the physicians and his receptionist (wife). Doctor left message on my answering machine not to challenge his decision to drop me from his practice. The message is priceless! I speculate he was not making enough money, or did not want a patient with complex medical problems. I was compliant with what I was told to do by these people --- but they… behave like it's the wild west. No manners, no professionalism. Don't waste your time!
