Dr. Phillip Justin Patterson, MD

Dr. Patterson is a wonderful doctor! He did an arthroscopic procedure on my left knee, and then later a total knee replacement in October 2022. He just did a total knee replacement on my right knee (December 2023). I totally trust his decisions as a doctor. He is patient and caring. He takes his time and explains things well. I have never felt rushed. It is rare in this day and age to find a doctor who really cares about you as a person. His bedside manner is impeccable. The world needs more physicians like Dr. Patterson. I have been traded if I doctor Patterson for the last year-and-a-half. I have had a total knee replacement and 8 months later a revision on the same knee. Today's date we are still having issues with instability and aggressive pain. At this point I'm not sure that doctor Patterson has a fix to correct the problem. Due to complications from a femoral break earlier in life I'm wondering if this should have been taken into consideration as to how it would affect the overall performance of the knee replacement. I really respect dr. Patterson as a person who listens well and has the best intentions but his skillfulness I question.

Dr. Patterson is a very caring doctor and he was eager to listen to my problems. Ease of Appointment is alway hard at Roanoke Orthopedic, but it's not the doctors fault, it's the facilities fault. He is a physical therapy first type Doctor because he understands that nothing is better than the original. In my case I had to have surgery for a torn lateral meniscus. In surgery he discovered I had an old acl injury. An acl injury that the first doctor missed. I really appreicated his help.

Was professional & seems to care about his patients. Would recommend to anyone.

Carilion Orthopedics system has a long waiting time for initial appointments and for getting follow up appointments, even when symptoms are worsening. They don't have enough docs, and seem to have no on call docs when there are urgent problems that arise. Communication with doctor through staff when there are serious issues is near to impossible. Felt treated as if in a cookie cutter protocol, had to move my care, at some distance to an urban center with a top doc to get better care and a proper diagnosis for my condition.
