Dr Poonam A. Manwani, MD

I had a deeply disappointing and upsetting experience during my recent appointment with Dr. Poonam A. Manwani. I came in genuinely concerned about sudden changes in my finger, including visible deformity and MRI results showing bone marrow swelling. I was emotionally distressed and hoping for guidance, clarity, and a sense of support. Instead, I was met with a cold, dismissive attitude. When I expressed my fears about how my finger looked, Dr. Manwani showed me a picture of an elderly person’s hands with severe arthritis and said, “Not to scare you but—eventually it will look like this.” There was no compassion or sensitivity in how this was delivered. It felt incredibly discouraging and even cruel. Despite a request from my GP for further blood work, she refused to order it, saying it was “obvious” what the diagnosis was and that there was “nothing I can do about it.” When I asked for a referral to a hand specialist, she said she would send it and the the visit was promptly ended… without further discussion. I left the office feeling more anxious, dismissed, and disrespected than when I arrived. Patients deserve to be treated with empathy and professionalism, especially when they are vulnerable.
