Dr. Poornima B Rao

Exceptional Surgeon who listens and is a born teacher. She saved my life. She leaves no stone unturned and will go to the mats for you. Do not expect a sense of humor she is all about surgery and recovery. I love her. Brilliant and has such a reverence for her calling. She is the real deal. Everyone I talked to who worked at St. Charles holds her in high regard for her academic and talents as a surgeon.

I have never met a doctor who cared more about her patients. Dr. Rao takes the time to listen to your concerns and addresses them. I am a 4 year breast cancer survivor. I will never forget my first meeting with Dr. Rao. She knew I had cancer and she laid out my options taking time and care to let me know she was gonna be with me the whole way. She drew me diagrams and made sure I understood. Even when I changed my mind on what direction I wanted to go, she wanted to hear my reasons to ensure I fully understood my path I chose. I continue to see her every 3 months as a piece of mind. I tell her thing that don't seem right and she will either be concerned and run tests or, put my mind at ease that it's ok. My husband and I fully trust her with my life. I would never seek another Dr. To replace her. Dr. Rao truly cares for you as a patient. I would strongly recommend her to anyone. I am thankful that Dr. Rao is my surgical oncologist. Cancer is a uncharted territory when diagnosed. Dr Rao is patient and very detailed about explain the treatment options, my surgical options, and what to expect going forward. She outlined my whole treatment plan and explained my diagnosis in detail. I feel very comfortable and at ease in her care. The one thing I can say on a personal note is she really treats you like a person she cares about. She's just fantastic.

Dr. Rao was rude at times when answering questions about surgery, and did not look at the patient as a whole, but only the procedure involved. She didn't show respect for the patient. She should look at the overall health of the patient, and perhaps a minimally invasive procedure is best. She recommended a second opinion from another doctor in her office which is unethical and unprofessional.

Absolutely one of the finest surgeons available in her expertise. Wonderful in explaining patient situation and options. Positive attitude and beyond exceptional expertise and skills. Her personal approach and concern for her patients is unsurpassed. I am alive today because of Dr. Rao.
