Dr. Prasanth Manthena, MD

I have been suffering from migraines for a couple of months. This doctor does not have empathy for his patients. He rude and condescending. I am not sure if its part of the Indian culture but Kaiser needs to get rid of this unprofessional doctor.

This doctor and another sleep specialist made me feel like I was wasting their time or lying. I was surprised him, being the sleep director, for being mean and rude. I thought he, of all people, should know better. I work with people suffering from severe mental health illnesses and substance abuse disease, and I can’t imagine talking to them the way I was spoken to. From the beginning, the director demonstrated irritation (OMG slow down, OMG let me talk). Even if I was talking fast, that type of tone and irritation was not justified. I was not rude, I can be easily directed. I can’t imagine being irritated w/ someone for being sick and in a vulnerable situation. Also, It felt as though he was upset that I disagreed and was trying to explain why. I know that clients and patients are experts of their experiences. This is a perfect example of doctors being put on pedestals and not being held accountable for their mistreatment of patients. At some point, I felt as if I was talking to a… client that lacked emotion regulation. As a professional, you’re supposed to not appear in that way. I was in a very vulnerable situation and I was scared I didn’t know what was happening to me. I had so many symptoms!! And when people are sick as a professional you are supposed to be understanding of that. Kaiser should be ashamed of themselves for keeping this kind of doctor- patient dynamic going. I hope I never get to a place where I’m mean to people for being sick, anxious, and scared because of symptoms that they don’t understand or have. The director appeared irritated by me and was not empathetic to the distress that I was in. I went 2 days w/o sleep (not even closing my eyes) and still couldn't sleep on 3rd day and I was traumatized. I’m feeling better and I’m going to keep advocating for my needs because I have a job and a child that I need to be there for and I’m not going to feel bad about it. It’s a sad day when people in high positions have the power to treat people in vulnerable positions badly for expressing their concerns and advocating for their needs. I’m definitely going to make sure I never get to this place as a professional. I hope to always have consideration and empathy for my clients because they are sick and it’s not their fault. I’m going to take this interaction as a learning point to always uplift and aid clt’s in need and not shut them down.

This Dr is awful. He’s very rude and doesn’t listen. According to him insomnia is only the “perception of not sleeping”. He explains that people diagnosed with insomnia actually sleep but all have the belief that we don’t sleep. So basically he’s saying that everyone who comes to him for sleep issues are liars. I told him that lately my sleep has been worse and I’m having memory issues and a hard time focusing. Again he says this is not true, and that lack of sleep doesn’t cause these issues, and only causes a person to “not feel well”. These are proven side effects to lack of sleep! He’s just argumentative and wants to argue every point rather than actually helping anybody.

This doctor has attitude problem. He came after his resident saw me first. When he entered the room started yelling at both me and poor resident and was making fun of me. I was more surprised when I understood he is the chief of neurology department at Kaiser! I advised the resident to not learn his behavior and not apply to patients in the future. It is a shame that a doctor like him are in charge of training others.

AVOID THIS PSYCHO AT ALL COSTS!! I HAD 2 APPTS WITH HIM AND BOTH TIMES ALL HE DID WAS TALK ABOUT HIS OWN 2 KIDS AND THEIR DISABILITIES AND HOW HARD HIS LIFE IS. THEN WHEN HE ASKED ME WHAT LEVEL OF FATIGUE I HAD BEEN FEELING SINCE OUR LAST VISIT (HE'S A SLEEP SPECIALISTS), I SAID, "I'M STILL REALLY TIRED ALL THE TIME." AND HE SAYS IN A SARCASTIC TONE, "OH YOU'RE TIRED? I HAVE PATIENTS WORKING 3 JOBS AND YOU'RE TIRED?!" THEN I TIRED TO ASK 2 QUESTIONS AND OUR OF BLUE HE GOT ALL FRAZZLED, SAID HE COULDN'T ANSWER THEM (BUT RAN OUT OF THE ROOM 4 TIMES DURING MY VISIT TO ANSWER HIS CELL PHONE), THEN CAME BACK IN, CALLED ME A HYPOCHONDRIAC (IN FRONT OF MY MOM -- SHE WAS THERE BECAUSE I WAS TOO SICK TO DRIVE MYSELF TO THE APPOINTMENT.) WE GOT UP AND LEFT. THE MAN NEEDS TO HAVE HIS LICENSE REVOKED ASAP BEFORE HE HURTS SOMEONE. THE HE NEEDS TO GO TO THERAPY/REHAB HIMSELF.

how did this dr. get such a high rating from previous patient. this dr was one of the most impatient, hot headed people i ever met. yes, he crunches data like a math whiz, but runs thru it like the indy 500 and gets upset if you ask him to repeat it, i could go on and on, but i think you get the idea
