Dr. Priyantha Pushpa Kumara Herath, MD

We were not sure what to thing on the first visit. Dr Herath was concerned about Edgar's balance, and (to test it) shoved him as he walked down the hall. I was alarmed! Bedside manner?? His concern was justified, it turned out, and PT for balance was prescribed. Edgar has Parkinson's, exascerbated by a series of small strokes. We had been given a devastating diagnosis of CBGD by the testing staff at S&W Temple. Dr Herath listened carefully to US, watched intuitively, and said he thought it was Parkinson's plus/strokes and not CBGD. Treatments have gone better than could have been expected, and though our expectations aren't perfect, they are certainly better than they could have been without a physician who really cares and who knows his science. We just learned he is leaving this part of the country, and (though I am not usually a 'weeper', my reaction to the news was to immediately tear up. He is a gifted neurologist and a very caring and dear man. I highly recommend… him to patients (who will listen) in his new area. We wish him happiness and all the best of everything.

I think Dr. Herath has a bad attitude, he is not a people person. He only seen me a few times after my DBS surgery and then he tried to say that my problem is physiological, he didn't seem to want to hear what I had to say or the video that was done before the surgery. The way I look at this is if it were physiological then why did the tremor stop when he adjusted the batteries? I also have a hearing loss and when we asked for him to speak louder he stated that he was speaking as loud as he could. I do not recommend this doctor to anyone!

I found Dr Herath to be compassionate and genuinely interested in treating me. He worked with me for several months until we found what worked to releive my symptoms. I would highly recommend this Doctor. He is tops in my book.

During my office visit, I felt like Dr Herath had little concern for me personally. I got the feeling his time was more important than mine. I presented him with a list of symptoms and he discounted it by tossisng it aside, stating "I don't use lists. I want you to tell me what's going on". I was on the defensive right away. He did not make eye contact. He diagnosed me with psychogenic movement disorder. Turns out was a correct diagnosis, however his delivery was so incompassionate, I discounted his opinion. He stated " trust me I know what I'm talking about and I recommend extensive long term psychotherapy and antideptressants." "Go ahead and chase the million dollar diagnoses and you will find out that I was right." He had little concern for my emotions at the time. Instead of being releived I was angry. He rushed me out of the exam room by saying "OK I've spent 40 mins with you That's my recommendation." I left so frustrated, I would never see him again for any reason!

wonderful doctor..

I had such an increibly great experisnce seeing this doctor, i wanted to write a note on him here, so that more people will see him. I have been a patient at Guthrie neurology for years, and in general allt he neurologists who had been here are all very incompetant, greedy people. Then, Dr H. came here, with all his excellen training and incredibly warm diagnostic acumen, warm bedside manner, it was like going to another world. I was seen by him, right on time, very promptly and courteously, and he told me that he likes to do things, the old fashioned way- he will listen to me, and examine me, instead of looking at reports on the computer, and scans. I was thrilled about this. He spent about 30 minutes asking details aabout my disease, and then examining me. This was like going to the mayo clinic. He was very comprehensive. then he explained to me what i have. Progressive supra nulcear palsy- parkinson type. This was a depressing diagonsis, but, he held my hand, and then my wife's… hand.. as we absorbed the shock. he gave me some medicines, that seem to be helping me at this time.I am looking forward to seeing this warm, excellent doctor again soon.I am surprised by some of the comments written by others. I wonder whether they were mad, becuse these people from this remote town are not used to this kind of excellent care from a foreign doctor with a cute accent!! Anyway, it is their loss!!

I had the fortune to be seen by this excellent doctor, after having been seen and mismanaged by the retards at the neuro dept at guthrie. Dr. H first told me that he wish to hear my story directly, without any reference to what other doctors may have told him. I was very impressed by this. He listened attentively, and then undertook a very extensive examination- the best I have ever had. then, he drew pictures on a white board and explained everything to me and my wife. It turned out that the ignoble asian doctor who is here is really an idiot. Dr. H started me on the right medication, and after 8 years of suffering, I am doing very well now. He told me that he would leave soon. This will be a great loss to this place, but I am not surprised. I wish him well.

He is a rude man. Very cold and no eye contact. Would not allow questions.

I have had issues that sent me to ENT, who referred me to Dr Herath for a Neuro consult. ENT ordered a series of MRI's that were done prior to my appointment with him. When I went to his office he told me he did not read MRI's, he reads patients. In 3 minutes I was told I was fine and he never reviewed the MRI's that were done. I not only feel mistreated, I feel my insurance company was taken advantage of as well.I did get a copy of my MRI before leaving and will share it with my treating providers. This guy may be good at something but I would not suggest going to see him - theres always another Doctor or Clinic to go to instead of wasting your time and money with him.
