Dr. Rachana Kaushal Gandhi Mehta, MD

Dr. Gandhi is a wonderful physician. She performed ultrasound in addition to EMG to better understand my disease. She spent sufficient time to talk to me to get detail history and examination and discuss further plan. Her assistance was also great.

I am following Dr. Gandhi for myopathy. I was wheelchair-bound 2 years ago and now I can walk. She is the best doctor I have encountered so far.

While she was nice enough she made her diagnosis within 30 seconds of meeting me and would not even entertain the idea that it could be wrong. Her tests were extremely subjective. I passed the tests when her assistant did them. She asked me to do things i’m not used to doing such as walking on my heels and because I wasn’t “good” at that made her diagnosis. Every test made me feel like she was sneaking up on me to bolster her preconceived diagnosis. The tests she did seemed to be extremely sensitive and were very painful. Her diagnostic tests consisted of digging a 2 inch long, 18 gauge needle around in my arm until she the results she expected. She lacked empathy for the fact that I found it painful and almost seemed to not believe me. She flat out refused to consider that her diagnosis could be bias or that my symptoms could be a side effect of a medication I take.( I looked it up later and they listed my symptoms as a possible side effect.) She didn’t take responsibility for her… diagnosis and told me that if I wanted to seek a second opinion, which I thought was commonplace, to not tell the second doctor that i’d seen her or what she said. She also made her diagnosis without having a complete picture of my health. After insisting her diagnosis was accurate she let it slip she had not looked at my MRI nor had she received all imaging or lab tests from my referring physician who had claimed to have sent them all. Her plan of treatment consisted of planning to send me to a GI doctor and a cardiologist, both of which I had already seen before being sent to her. The GI doctor told me she did not treat my problem and the cardiologist told me that there was nothing wrong with me. She wanted to do many more invasive tests like a muscle biopsy to get confirmation of a condition she admitted medical science could not treat or cure. It sounded as if by paying for this extremely expensive genetic test the only benefit I would get from it was giving a coroner my cause of death. I had one those 23 and me tests and did not show any of the markers for her muscula dystrophy diagnosis in my DNA. Due to all of the insulting and inappropriate things she did I would give her zero stars if I could.

Dr gandhi administered a EMU a sonographic study of right and left arms and partial study on rt LEG due to neuropathy. The o ly discussion with me was that I had a lunar nerve problem and that my neuropathy was due to L5 and S1. There was no further discussion. I had to request a copy of the diagnosis to get further info which had little detail of the neuropathy affecting bot h of my legs/feet and back pain.

Terrible bedside mannor, no lack of empathy, mis dx'd... Caused physical harm... Steer clear of this MD.
