Dr. Rajiv Kandala, MD

As an International Medical Graduate (IMG) currently practicing as a limited-license physician under the supervision of Dr. Rajiv Kandala, I have had an outstanding experience working and training with him. This opportunity has been extremely valuable to my clinical development and preparation for the next stage of my medical career. I am receiving excellent, comprehensive clinical training with broad exposure similar in many respects to the clinical environment of a residency program. Under Dr. Kandala’s supervision, I have the opportunity to participate in the management of patients across multiple settings, including the outpatient clinic/office, acute-care hospital, and nursing home/long-term care facilities. This experience has exposed me to a wide variety of patients, diagnoses, and levels of medical complexity. I am continuously strengthening my clinical judgment, patient-management skills, documentation, and understanding of how patient care transitions across outpatient,… inpatient, and long-term care settings. Another particularly valuable aspect of this opportunity is my interaction with residents in a Family Medicine residency program. Being exposed to this environment while gaining practical clinical experience has helped me tremendously as I continue working toward my career goals in medicine. Dr. Kandala is an excellent teacher and mentor who maintains very high standards of patient care. He challenges me to think critically and teaches not only what to do, but the clinical reasoning behind patient-management decisions. I have learned a tremendous amount from his guidance and supervision. I have also been very impressed by the relationships Dr. Kandala has developed with his patients. His patients have tremendous trust in him, and many specifically request to be seen by him. That kind of loyalty speaks volumes about the quality of care, compassion, and personal attention he provides. As an IMG and limited-license physician, I am very grateful to have this opportunity to learn under Dr. Kandala’s supervision. It was an honor for me to be a part of Dr. Kandala's team during my rotation at JPH. This rotation gave me exactly what I was looking for: worked with EMR system and participated in physical exams under Dr. Kandala supervision, presented patients during rounds, discussed differential diagnosis, plans, treatment options. Dr. Kandala knowledge of medicine practice is outstanding, he is an exceptional preceptor and extremely professional. Despite his tremendous work load, he always takes time to conduct detailed rounds. Dr. Dupaya guided me throughout and taught on how to use efficiently the EMR system, how to order medication and other orders. I am extremely thankful for this experience and opportunity. I had an amazing opportunity to have my clinical rotation under the supervision of Dr. Kandala. He is an extraordinary mentor and doctor, always taking the extra mile for his patients to make sure they receive the best treatment possible and that all their concerns are heard. This clinical rotation is equal to PGY-1 residency program, which is excellent preparation to be extra ready for that time. Besides being a great doctor, Dr. Kandala is also a superior mentor and teacher, being a student under him taught me a lot about patient care and treatment. This rotation also polished my clinical and communication skills, I became more confident in cases presentation during rounds. Dr. Kandala is a well educated and competent physician. I came to perform an externship under his guidance for a 6 week period during these winter months, and have gotten excellent mentorship and hands on clinical experience. I truly believe i have acquired complete competency for residency, and although i still have much to learn, Dr. Kandala has imparted on me critical knowledge and experience for the future. Dr. Kandala is a very knowledgeable clinician, teacher and a mentor. I’m glad that I got the privilege to work with him in my 4 week rotation at the Jackson Park Hospital. He always guided us throughout the patient rounds and taught us about the conditions and medications of the patient. I really appreciated the effort he gives in pushing us to our limits, so we become faster, alert, and more competent in residency. I would recommend this rotation to other medical students as well.

I had the privilege of doing my rotations for 4 weeks under Dr. Kandala. During those 4 weeks Dr. Kandala expanded my medical knowledge and gave us many hands on experiences with the patient. In the clinic, he used to let us individually interact with patients and used to take our diagnosis under consideration. Dr. Kandala is such an excellent teacher and mentor.
