Dr. Rao is Professor and Director of Spine Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Medical College of Wisconsin. His special interests include surgical management of degenerative conditions of the neck and back, spine trauma, spine tumors and deformity. Dr. Rao is a Board Certified Orthopaedic surgeon and Fellowship trained in Spine Surgery. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Southern California, and fellowship training in Spine Surgery at the William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Prior to joining the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Rao practiced Spine Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery in northern California for three years. He also spent time doing orthopaedic research at the OrthopAdische Klinik Seepark, Bremerhaven, Germany, at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and at Orthopaedic Hospital, Los Angeles. He is an Associate Editor of The Spine Journal and is on the editorial boards of other national and international …scientific journals. He has had many papers published in prestigious scientific journals and taught at national and international meetings. His research interests include spinal biomechanics, the biology and mechanics of spinal fusion, and gait analysis in persons with spinal disorders. He is on many national committees, and was recently appointed to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Advisory Panel on Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Devices. Dr. Rao is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, and the Milwaukee Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Rao sees patients at the MCW Clinics at Froedtert Hospital East. His specialty interests include the surgical and nonsurgical management of neck and back disorders, spinal tumors and trauma.

Don’t EVER see this “surgeon”. I had the worst, uncaring treatment following my tri-level ACDF surgery... he went so far as to say he could not support me during my recovery ... guess why? My surgeon left the GWMFA practice!

Terrible bedside manner. He may benefit from basic social skills classes.

He came across as arrogant and rude ended up switching to a surgeon out of froedert and will never go back there again because of him

It has been a year since my surgery on my neck. Before my surgery I was in so much pain and could not do any thing I enjoyed. I would recommend Dr Roe to any body who needs neck surgery. I am enjoying my grandchildren again! I also biking, golfing, and kayaking again. A year ago I thought my life was living in a recliner. I am so thankful I found Dr Roe he helped me get my life back.

Dr. Rao is very compassionate and down to earth. He explained my issues and took a great deal of time with me to be sure I understood everything. He answered every question that I had and stated that every question was valid. My results after the surgery were greater than I had expected .I am happy to have my life back pain free.

I saw Dr. Rao having a MRI on C, T & L spine with severe back pain at times. His assistant called prior to setting an appointment and said that the doctor would review the MRI prior to appointment to determine if he would see me or not I received a call back and was told to make an appointment. At the appointment, I was basically told to keep exercising and loose weight. No help what so ever. Very disappointing and a big waste of time and money.

Dr Rao is known world wide. He is a top surgeon in his field, and is extremely kind and down to earth. I will refer any and all who need back surgery to him.
