My dad fell off a ladder and displaced and broke his neck in 3 places. He was taken to UofM for surgery. We could not be there with him due to covid so we were all very nervous. Dr. Patel called me to discuss the procedure he would be doing. He answered all of my questions and didn't rush me. The surgery was complex and there we're a lot of risks involved but everything went great! Dr. Patel knowing how worried we were, called us HIMSELF after the surgery to let us know that everything went well and that there were no complications. He's confident, skillful, calm, knowledgeable, and he's the reason my dad is here today and doing so well! We are blessed and are forever grateful to have had him as my dads surgeon!

Sanctimonious, supercilious, offensive manner. Rushed me out of there as fast as possible. I couldn’t get a word in edgewise. He pushed a hard sell by trying to scare me with horror stories about what might happen if I declined surgery. NOT going back.

He was condescending, rude and acted like he was a god, which he is far from. He did three spine surgeries in four months, all for the same thing, and all failed miserably. Instead of repairing his first or second failure, he just kept going higher up my spine. Even his trusted nursing assistance told me to write a complaint to the hospital about him because according to them, they have to hear about all the complaints about him, but are scared to death of him. Never going back. Go to Tec Soo at Michigan Brain and spine for a true surgeon of the spine.

Dr. Rakesh Patel is an exceptional surgeon. I was in a very precarious state when I went to see him. His diagnosis was accurate. I was scheduled promptly. He is efficient and his work is flawless. He performed a double cervical fusion on me. He & his surgical team had me in recovery in an hour and a half. I went home the next day. Zero complications. Spinal surgery is scary with no guarantee. You will be lucky to have this gifted surgeon.
