Dr. Ralph Edwards Wesley, MD

I'm a retired surgeon and I needed eyelid surgery. Everybody in town knows Wesley is the man for eyelid surgery in Nashville. I wanted upper and lower lids done. I learned that Medicare (MC) requires a visual fields test and a photo of your eyes in order to pay for the surgery; in other words, they won't pay for purely cosmetic surgery. How do they know if it's cosmetic? The visual fields test offers objective proof that your eyelids droop enough to block part of your vision. His office sent the test and photo to Medicare. Oddly, MC approved only one of my eyes— strange I know. Eyes come in pairs. The office told me I'd have to pay cash in advance for what MC would not pay. So, I had to pay some part of it. This is what you'd expect. The care and the result were excellent— could not be happier. The sad truth is that we patients (as well as the doctor) are at Medicare's mercy to make the decision.

Dr. Wesley and his staff were professional and caring. I visited him for a problem that I had been having for several months. He did not pressure me to have surgery, even told me I could wait and do it when I wanted, but I chose to have surgery as soon as possible. The procedure went perfectly, and I have no complaints. Another patient commented about the excessive cost, but my surgery cost was quite reasonable. It definitely depends on one's insurance coverage. The follow-up went great, and he was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs eye surgery.

Terrible. His bright idea was to start walking around with my eyes open wider looking like an insane person. I couldn't even do the portion of the field vision test because the adhesive tape wouldn't stick to my drooping lids. I had to take the entire exam opening my eyes as wide as I could so they had to keep stop the test because my eyes were watering so badly. My insurance company said I was fine. Yes, just fine for walking into tree branches and not seeing anything in my upper peripheral vision! Quack.

I recently had a blephraplasty performed by Dr. Wesley. The results were fantastic. He has a great bedside manner. I would recommend him to anyone!

Dr Wesley and his staff (both office staff and surgical staff) are caring professionals who provided me with excellent care. As a patient and a Registered Nurse, I can recommend without reservation.

I went to visit Dr. Wesley on referral from my dermatologist. My first appointment was a consultation where they tested my vision and the doctor looked at me for about 10 seconds. We then discussed my issue and he told me they could take care of it in the office as a minor procedure in about 15 minutes and recovery would be less than a week, with no follow up to the office required. Total visit lasted about 15 minutes and I scheduled the procedure for the next week. He accurately predicted the amount of time for the procedure, and that day I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. For a total of less than an hour of time in the office, of which only about 20 minutes was actually spent with the Dr., I was billed $2500 and it cost me $1,230 out of pocket. Good luck if you have a more serious issue and you go to this Doctor.
