Dr. Ramiro O Mercado, MD

First of all, the receptionist is awful (the one with light curly hair). The first time, I made an appointment online for a series of mental disorders (they make you list why you need to see the doctor) and when I got in, there were some issues with my insurance so they couldn't take me, which was fine, it was my mistake, but the receptionist looked at my reasons for coming in (is she even allowed to do this?) and when she saw I had listed depression, bipolar, ADHD, and anxiety (all of which have been diagnosed), she told me to listen to music and to avoid taking meds as I could become addicted. I mean... what??? The the second time I made an appointment, I came in after taking off work and she told me my appointment had been canceled and blamed me for canceling it via text even though I never received a message... turns out she had incorrectly put in my phone number and the confirmation message had been sent to the wrong number. After battling with her, she finally called the… supervisor and she got me in with Dr. Mercado. This is when it got worse. He asked me standard questions about my health, including sexual health, which I answered that I was single but sexually active. He responded in a judgmental way and for the rest of the appointment assumed I had a boyfriend (I told him I didn't) Then when it came to my mental disorders, the man actually said it's all in my head and that I can cure myself if I choose to by being more positive... WHAT LEGITIMATE DOCTOR SAYS THIS???? He told me I was too young to have problems (he doesn't know my life?) but by some miracle still refilled my meds that I had successfully taken under another doctor. The ignorance this man has is unbelievable. How can a person who studied the human body not understand that mental disorders are real and biological? don't go to this 'doctor,' and don't even go to the clinic

Dr. Mercado has been my doctor for 15 years and I will never leave. He always cares about my well being and always takes his time to help me.

Quiero mencionar que mi experiencia en la oficina del Dr.Mercado fue muy negativa.Tiene el personal mas despota y mal educado que he visto en una oficina medica.Sumamente incompetente.La office manager piensa que por que es la hija del Dr. lo sabe todo. Realmente esta chica olvida que quien tiene los titulos es su papa y no ella. La asistente medico es un lastre.Y tiene tiene una senora mayor antipatica, grosera y poco amable. El tiempo de espera es demasiado, los referridos nunca estan a tiempo. El Dr. necesita una manager como la que tenia anteriormente.Esta chica si era educada, siempre tenia una sonrisa y hacia lo imposible por ayudar al paciente.Cuando ella ministraba la oficina del Dr.era un placer pues tenia la mejor de las actitudes. Que pena por que el personal que tienen ahora es patetico.Y el Dr.no tiene ni voz ni voto. Creo que no sabe el desastre que tiene por personal. Que pena.....

Staff is very rude in this office. Staff has no manners whether via phone or in person..I informed that I prefer to switch to a different doctor..staff called me back to yell in my ear that i cannot choose Dr. Mercado again...Dr. Mercado...You have terrible unconsiderate staff working for you....It's a shame because you are not a bad Dr....but your staff makes you look different

I have never waited less than 45 minutes to see this doctor--always with an appointment. I have seen him three times. Each diagnosis for those three visits have been questioned and proven wrong after getting a second opinion at a specialist.

I HAVE BEEN HIS PATIENT FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS AND WILL CONTINUE WITH DR MERCADO AS LONG AS HE PRACTICES IN ILLINOIS. HE IS GENUINE IN WANTING TO HELP AND FIND THE CORRECT DIAGNOSIS. HE WILL SPEND THE NECESSARY TIME WITH YOU REGARDLESS OF HOW BUSY HIS DAY IS AND WILL SHOW YOU THE ATTENTION YOU DESERVE.

I have had this doctor since I was a teen and I love the way he treats his patients. A lot of new rules and policies have been implemented in the office to better it. No one likes change. I like the fact that they are going more electronic.

My first visit overall was very negative, but I thought Dr. Mercado was competent and professional. I want to premise this statement by saying I have never cried racism on anyone; when I first walked into the office I was looked at with disdain and felt like I was unwelcome, as I was the only non-Hispanic person in the office, including office staff. They refused to give me paperwork in English on top of it, but luckily I understand enough Spanish to have filled out the forms. By now I was feeling very uncomfortable and unwelcome. I waited for over an hour just to get a referral for a specialist. I waited 2 weeks for the referral and it was for the wrong type of doctor.At my second visit, I went in solely for bloodwork and waited exactly an hour and a half. I made the appointment for bloodwork and they didn't ask what I needed done. I asked them if they wanted to know exactly what type of bloodwork I needed, and they said no. I called again the day of the appointment to… confirm, and they said "no" once again. After waiting for 90 minutes, the doctor came in and I told him I didn't need to see him, I just needed bloodwork. He informed me in an extremely uncaring way that they don't even do bloodwork in their office and I would need to go elsewhere! I was appalled and shocked. The staff was extremely rude to me when I asked why they didn't tell me this on the phone. Just an awful experience with completely incometent and uncompassionate staff. No one deserves to be treated so poorly.
