Dr. Randall C Speck, MD

Dr. Randall Speck is THE best physician I've EVER been attended by*, and I've had ALOT. He's expedient, yet thorough, with his questions going straight to the heart of the area(s) of concern. He is proficient and reserved-- but don't mistake this demeanor for one of aloofness or apathy; Dr. Speck is one of those people who are authentically caring; pleasant, but without being overly effusive about it. IMO, the "proficiency" comes from knowing exactly what he's doing and/or looking for, due to his 27+ years of medical experience. He's also EXTREMELY liberal when it comes to things like pain control, pain meds in the E.R., take home Rx's, etc. For instance, he gave me a very potent I.V. narcotic while I was in the E.R. Then, upon my discharge, I asked him if I could possibly have the SAME medication in pill form. After discussing the pros and cons of providing me with medication of that caliber, he agreed to prescribe #24 of them; not many doctors trust their patients enough to do… that. You'll find him genuinely open to any suggestions that you, the patient, may have, especially as to what has worked for you in the past, or what you would prefer; howEVER, Dr. Speck (along with any other good physician) accepts such input only in the framework of good medical ethics, policies & procedures, temepered, of course, with his own medical judgment, which, in my case, has always been accurate, and good. On a "lighter note" ( pun intended) Dr. Randy Speck is ALSO a "hummer" -- such as when he's washing his hands, or doing the pefunctory examination. It's endearing; and, at least to me, relaxing when an E.R. M.D. whistles or hums-- if only b/c you realize that if your condition were gravely serious, they more than likely would NOT be performing the theme from "Gimme Shelter"!The single thing wrong with Dr. Randall Speck, IMHO, is that he isn't in Private Practice :( I would absolutely entrust him with the welfare of my child, parents, and friends-- and I'D transfer to him in a flash, myself!*My opinions/ratings are solely based on 10+ years, AND 10+ Emergency Room visits with this specific doctor.

It would be wise for Dr. Speck to "think before he speaks". He stated that a patient was in the ED because she "liked her drugs". Dr. Speck earned his degree, it would be wise to put his medical knowledge to use instead of making "ignorant" comments to staff and cardio dept. Very unprofessional and inaccurate!
