Dr. Raquel Tamara Wagman, MD

Dr. Wagman was the 2nd Oncologist Radiologist I interviewed before I made my decision. I loved her manner and my husband thought the same . I had my lumpectomy at Overlook and then followed it with radiation therapy at St. Barnabas with Dr. Wagman. She has a wonderful support staff from Sally the nurse to the wonderful technicians. I never felt uncomfortable and when my therapy finally concluded after 6 weeks, I had tears in my eyes as the technicians hugged me. I went back a few months later for an exam because I choose Dr. Wagman to follow me intermittently between visits with my breast Doctor. She is just so compassionate and really quite an asset to the cancer profession.

I'm a cancer survivor due to the efforts of my team of doctors in which Dr. Wagman played a crucial role. She provided exceptional care and treatment. It was thought I would need surgery after chemo and radiation treatments but due to the her accuracy in treatment I didn't need the surgery. Also the technicians she directed were caring, courteous and understanding throughout the treatment and side effects of the radiation therapy.

My husband and I met with her prior to my decision. I interviewed 3 radiologist/oncologists and chose Dr. Wagman. She spent a lot of time with me, answers all my questions and was so sweet. She didn't like the initial CT scan that was done prior to my treatment, so she personally called me to apologize and I went back for a repeat. I have chosen to see her for my quarterly exams during this first two years. I also don't understand the negative review on this doctor, I think she is the sweetest person.

Dr Wagman greeted me with a smile, has a very calming effect on patients. She addressed all my concerns that were written down before I asked her.

Dr. Wagman is one of the most caring, professional physicians you will ever encounter. She is an expert radiation oncologist and follows up carefully and thoroughly on her patients. She is up to date on the latest technology in the field.

Not quite sure where the negative comments on this site have come from. Dr. Wagman has always taken far more time with me and been more compassionate than any other doctor I've ever been to. She really cares about her patients, and goes the extra mile for them. To show that I'm not alone in this, I know that she has won the "I love my doctor" St. Barnabas award twice in the past 2 years, and has been ranked Top Doctor in NJ (2010), Top Doctor for Women in NJ (2010), and Top Doctor in the NY Metro Area 2009 and 2010. I highly recommend Dr. Wagman to any cancer patient.

Wagman was not open about procedure and pain involved. She kept information from me and when questioned denied it and became very defensive. It was hard to ask her questions because she took everything I said as a personal attack on her. Very hard to be around. She was always behind schedule and scattered. Would not recommend her to anyone.

Dr Wagman knows how to radiate cancer, but she is not at all sensitive to her patient's pain. She talks to her patients like they are children. She lacks good communication skills. Telling patients, "don't worry, we will take care of that" without explaining what "that" is.
