Dr. Raul Mata Cruz, MD

I met Dr. Cruz when he was a resident. I had been summarily repeatedly dismissed by doctors as either allergic or psychosomatic as my symptoms progressed. Dr. Cruz looked me in the eye and said, he would not quit until he got to the root of my problem... and ordered imaging, which no one had bothered with before. As it was prior to todays digital detail the shadow indicated something was there and surgery was indicated. I was awake when he pulled the tumor with an "Oh my God". A rare cancerous growth, called an ethesio neuroblastoma or cancer of the olfactory nerve was expanding in my ethmoid sinus. He performed the major surgery to remove the tumor, followed by radiation therapy and 12+ years of follow-up. He was mindful in not leaving me visible scars or disfigurement and with the tumor gone... the ability to breathe, restored. Dr. Cruz always went the extra mile, an extraordinary teacher... and volunteer. Annually he went to south America to give his service to those in… need. A truly gifted doctor. I thank you for my life.
