Dr. Ray Claude Babb Jr, MD

I waited some time to post my review after having my son, to be sure that I had a clear perspective on the situation. It's been 3 years, and fortunately Dr. Babb has retired, but should he decide to re-enter practice, I'll write this anyway. At about 20 weeks I started experiencing horrible edema, not your usual pregnancy swelling, but more like the Michelin Man, and my blood pressure had sky-rocketed. He didn't offer any advice as to why this was happening, such as the pre-eclampsia I was developing, nor did he offer any advice on how to prevent it, such as upping my water intake and cutting down on sodium. He then proceeded to belittle me at every appointment concerning my weight gain, which was only 25 pounds at the end of the pregnancy, even though I hadn't gained an abnormal amount of fat, the weight was from the incredible swelling. After finally being induced, because the protein part of the pre-eclampsia equation was finally detected, he ignored that I had repeatedly told… him that I deliver very quickly, as I had delivered both of my previously induced children in under 3 hours, and so he put off ordering my epidural until it was to late to be effective. A nurse came to my aid and saw that my son was crowning, and screamed for him to get in there and deliver the baby. He came in with a sheet tied around him, and because I was screaming from the pain, told me "Ok, that is enough of THAT." When my beautiful son was finally handed to me and the delivery was complete, the staff left and forgot about my baby for an hour. He was in my arms, shivering, when my husband was finally able to call a nurse to get him, and he had to be placed under an incubator for several hours. Both of my previous deliveries had been peaceful and I was able to enjoy them because of my epidural. I'm now pregnant again, and so thankful that he is retired and there is no way he would ever have the chance to be on call to deliver my baby.

Horrible bedside manner. His jokes are awkward. You would be shocked if you heard him speak to the nurses or any of the staff at the hospital. He is alarmingly disrespectful.

I was referred to Dr. Babb by a family friend -- he is great with his care and his staff is awesome. Making an appointment is so easy, they do plenty of ultrasounds and always answer my questions the only issue I have is his bedside manor could use some work. He is never she about what he is thinking. He will make comments about your weight if he thinks you are gaining too fast (I am 36 weeks and under 30lbs gained this pregnancy) it often makes for a really awkward exam because everyone in the room feels awkward after that. He also has really weird jokes. If those things won't bother you then he is an excellent provider but if you are sensitive I would recommend another provider. I will say though it is nice that I see him every visit not just a nurse or a NP and only see the actually Dr. at delivery or major appts.

Dr. Babb my obgyn all three of my children and two of my siblings. He was always nice and kind. Two of the three were delivered by the hospital staffing which I still paid him for. through my last pregnancy he lost interest in my pregnancy and got kinda mean. I now do not wish to have anymore and feel like I have been put on the back burner. My most recent yearly appointment was rescheduled 3 times, in which I took off work for every time. I understand there is no certaintly of the scheduling of an obgyn, but it was ridiculous.

I was a patient of Dr Babb's for several years. He delivered my first daughter and I had a great experience with him. About two years later I suffered a miscarriage and Dr Babb acted like it was nothing I should be upset about, I miscarried again about 5 months later and he proceeded to bill all of my appts as not being pregnant which my insurance denied all charges bc my chart and all labs/ultasounds showed I was pregnant. He had terrible bedside manner in my latter experiences and I would not recommend him. I will stick to a female OBGYN from now on who understands the difficulty of miscarriage

Have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Babbs and would recommend him to any of my friends or family. However, He made me feel uncomfortable about my weight gain. I started my pregnancy being at a normal healthy weight and was within normal weight gain. But he made me feel as if I had to diet and that is not what a prego women needs to feel during the last few months.
