The intense fear and uncertainty of a suspicious impression of the MRI I had showed the potential of a Low-Grade Glioma brain tumor - unexpected and having the complexity of potential life-altering treatment. This was precisely why I was introduced to Mount Sinai neurosurgeon Raymund Yong, MD recognized for his passionate work ethic, technical expertise, compassion, confidence and dedication to treating brain tumors. He ultimately gave me the confidence to have a left temporal craniotomy and resection of the tumor hoping for a positive outcome. And a positive outcome it was – the pathology of the tumor ultimately confirmed it was a grade 1 glioma – BENIGN! A heartfelt significance is felt about Dr.Yong’s Nurse Practitioner Johanna Valiquette who was introduced as a key point of contact at the onset and valued as a critical and continual source of support. Dr. Yong also practiced a truly multidisciplinary approach as a surgeon by collaborating with highly regarded and coordinated teams… of anesthesiologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, pathologists, and specialized neurocritical care nursing staff all performing complex, life-saving work. And lastly a specific mention is also warranted for the postoperative care at the Neuro ICU provided by a team of exceptional and dedicated expert nursing staff committed to the highest level of care for my recovery.

I highly recommend Dr. Yong. I’m a 40 yr old who incidentally found a 3 cm left insular grade 3 tumor in an eloquent area. I have seen multiple neurosurgeons, but chose Dr. Yong for his confidence, patience and a recommendation from a Mount Sinai doctor who is a very close friend of mine. I was very impressed with Dr. Yong and his team when they gave the detailed preop 3D imaging presentation. The VR glasses showed the tumor in various perspectives along with arterial and functional pathways- then he presented the plan of resection along those areas. He answered all of my questions and was very accommodating to my needs. I was also very impressed RN, Johanna Vaillancourt, who was very caring and helpful throughout the process.
