Rebecca A Gibbon, MD

Rebecca Gibbon, MD, has joined the surgery team at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
Dr. Gibbon earned her Doctor of Medicine from Oregon Health & Science University. She completed her general surgery internship and residency at Central Iowa Health System – Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She is trained in a broad spectrum of surgical techniques, including open, laparoscopic and robotic approaches.
She was drawn to a career in surgery by her love of science, the opportunity to work as part of a team, and a strong desire to help others. “When I was looking at other medical professions as a high school student, it really came down to the personal aspect of being able to help someone in a time of need – that’s what got me to the bedside,” Gibbon said. “And as a surgeon, you can also have long-lasting relationships with your patients.”
Her philosophy of care centers on meeting each patient where they are and understanding what motivates them, which helps guide …collaborative, personalized care. “Ultimately, I treat each patient as if they were my own family member,” she says.
Dr. Gibbon is fluent in Spanish and is passionate about providing inclusive care.
A native Oregonian who grew up in rural Eastern Oregon, she looks forward to serving the community. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking and kayaking, as well as trying new recipes and visiting local restaurants.
