Fell and fractured lower back burst fracture at L1, 95 percent spinal compression, lost use of legs for 3 months due to spinal cord injury. Dr Reginald Knight along with Dr Rudolph Taddonio. Performed 2 operations which took 12 hours to complete. Both doctors where involved in the first when they made a 15 inch insicion on my left side to bone graft at L1, and clean up all the bone fragments. Dr Knight continued and did the 2nd operation by himself, hemade a 14 inch insicion down the middle of my back from the T10 to the L 5 area. Two Steffi Rods and 6 screws were placeed to stabilize the L3 to T12 area. I gradually improved and was able to walk normal after 5 months, run up some hills after 12 months. Hit the pool and continue to swim now for 27 years post surgery. NO RUNNING. Only drawback is the pain which is very difficult to cope with. But I was extremely fortunate not to be paralyzed from the waist down. Count my blessing everyday, and work out swimming in the pool.… BACKSTROKE and FREESTYLE..
