Dr. Rex Alan Birkmire, MD

A family member has been seeing a Nurse Practitioner in Dr. Birkmire's practice for several years. Honestly, the only reason we started was because there are few in this field that accept Medicare. So, we started so that my family member could continue to get the required medications. Honestly, I report any changes and it has reached the point where I am the one who actually recommends dosage changes. The staff is overworked and thus rushed, impatient and at times rude. There is no respect at all for patient's time. We have had a 10:00 AM appointment and actually seen our provider waltz in at 10:20 AM. They honestly don't care how long you sit there waiting for them. Now, with the Pandemic, all appointments are phone appointments. Today, we had a 10:30 AM appointment. We were ready a few minutes before then. We finally received our call at 12:44 PM. More than two and a half hours late. We received no notification during that time. Twice, I tried to call, only to hear… "will you hold?". The second time I called, I interrupted the young lady and said "No, I will not hold I have a question". She accused me of being rude. As a patient, rudeness and bad treatment is at times unbearable. As I said earlier, the only reason they get away with this abusive treatment of their customers is because there is a shortage of providers and insurance issues. Under normal circumstances, they honestly would not have very many customers. We hate having to deal with them. The nurse practitioner we deal with is actually knowledgable and pleasant when we talk with her. But, she has ridiculously bad time management skills. And, her computer is always acting up (or she blames other issues on her computer). I wish this review could be more positive. But, the truth is the truth. I hope they read this review and others like it and take it to heart. They need to treat their patients better.

This doctor has called the police on two of his patients that were upset. PATIENTS BEWARE. This doctor is a sick human being who needs medication himself. I want warn everyone out there about his psychotic behavior. He orders the police to arrest a woman in the parking lot after she left the office and the police threw her to the ground in handcuffs. And her child too. Excessive behavior of police but why were they called in the first place. He did the same thing to another patient a couple of months ago. He is a SICK human being!!!!!!

Do you want a psychiatrist that belittles and berates you? Do you get a thrill from being held hostage via shady business practices that just don't add up? Do you enjoy being yelled at if you ask a doctor to respect your time, and not be THREE HOURS late to your appointment? Man, do I have the doctor for you! Dr. Birkmire is the most unprofessional doctor I have ever seen. Complaining about his appalling lack of time management is clearly a sore spot, because he started yelling at me instantaneously. The next words were "you still have to pay for this". It’s clear that he is significantly more money motivated than understanding or caring. You know...the traits you actually want in a mental health provider. Mental health professionals should not yell at patients...or get triggered so quickly. Save yourself the headache: Go somewhere else.

horrible experience for my 84 yr old mother. She had gone to him for over 1 yr without resolution to her problems. He over-medicated her and while in the ER due to falling because of over medication, they demanded he stop over-medicating my mother. She continued to go to him in fear no one else would take her. When i called him out on it in the last apptmnt , he said he would no longer see my mother. He said he is too old for this! Get out of the medical field if you are to old to help patients! The wait time is crazy! He over books appointments so the more he sees the more he can put a claim in. He is only interested in sending claims to Medicare & insurance. To wait over 2 hrs for 10 minute apptmnt & no resolution is a crime & abuse of power for people who can't help themselves. His staff is just as rude. It reflects as him as a professional.

I have been seeing Dr. Birkmire for 3 years, and yes, sometimes you do have a long wait time when you have a scheduled appointment...however, it’s because he actually takes the time with EACH of his patients to listen to them, see how they are really doing, and understand what they’re going through. I know when I have an appointment scheduled that I am probably going to have to wait awhile so I try to bring something to do, because I know when I get in the room for my appointment, I have his undecided attention and I’m getting the best care and I will not be going anywhere else!

The wait time is abhorrent.

Had my daughter in tears. Said he had paperwork which he didn’t. Nasty attitude and condescending manner. When I called him out on it he threatened me. So unprofessional.

4+ hour wait, rude to patients, needs anger management. Total 0 stars if this survey would let me. Ashlawn consulting needs to be reviewed. Terrible experience.

I'm a highly depressed person who finally reached out for help and just my luck I get involved with this racket. The only thing that happened by going there is wasting my time on 2 visits, being out 400 dollars on 2 visits and 200 dollars for Meds that made me more tired than I've ever been and don't work for me because I was mis-diagnosed as bi polar when I'm completely and simply have major depression. My first visit was at least a 1 hour 40 minute wait. Second visit was 2 hours. I was in the room with the nurse practitioner for 10 minutes when I walked out. She's a incompetent greedy woman who interrupts you constantly. It's like a slaughterhouse revolving door for the mentally needy. It's like you bought a ticket on a greyhound bus and are stuck in a small town with no direction from the employees who don't give a ... It's a helpless feeling being in their hands. These people should be ashamed but they're not. They're after your insurance and when you remind them that your self pay… they are ready to offend instead of help so that you get
