Dr. David Rex Hamilton, MD

For my cataract surgery, the Tecnis Symfony was the lens highly recommended for an additional cost. With this lens, I was told I wouldn't need glasses and would be able to see far and near. That is not the results. I do not need glasses for everyday wear but do need them for far and near. Had I not been told that this would do away with glasses, I would NOT have been so disappointed. Also, I now have extreme dryness in both eyes which I never had before. Not happy!

I live on the central coast and after local consults my doctor here suggested I go to UCLA for cataract (plus other multiple eye problems) surgery. Before surgery I could barely get around with my glasses. Dr Hamilton completed my surgery at UCLA and Santa Monica Surgery Center. My vision is now 20/25. I have not been able to see without glasses since being in the third grade. My doctor here at home is amazed at my results. He said I was such high risk and he felt only a 50/50 chance I would see as well as I can. He did not want to do the surgery and not have good results. I feel blessed to have found Dr Hamilton and to have receive such wonderful results!!

I can't speak to Dr. Hamilton's technical competence but I sure can about his relationship with patients. Just 4 weeks short of an 8-month wait for a surgical procedure a receptionist called to notify me that the procedure was cancelled because Dr. Hamilton moved his practice from the Stein Eye Center to the Santa Monica Eye Med Group. 6 weeks and still his new practice can't answer basic questions, much less schedule consults/procedures; and his old practice (Stein Eye Center) is still overwhelmed trying to accommodate his patients. I can't speak to Dr. Hamilton's technical competence but clearly the welfare of HIS PATIENTS was of little consequence in his transition plan.

Dr Hamilton is one of the best eye surgeons in the world. His work has helped me see better for 5 years. He is very congenial as well.
