Dr. Reza Bobby Omid, MD

Stay away! I had a broken shoulder and he really insisted that I should have a surgery. I understood that something was fishy from his generic advice ("make sure you do not smoke before the surgery") and his tonality. I eventually went to two other orthopedics who said that there was clearly no need for surgery and the shoulder would heal by itself. Indeed, the shoulder ended up healing completely on its own. I am convinced that he wanted to do the surgery for monetary reasons. People like him should not be allowed to practice.

I found Dr. Omid by calling USC Keck and asked them who was their best surgeon to fix a hip labral tear. They said Dr. Omid, and he turned out to be terrific! After years of suffering, my hip is now completely pain free, and he even caught a cam impingement that every other doctor I'd seen managed to miss. He was very courteous and professional, and if I ever needed the other one done (knock on wood), this is the surgeon whose schedule I'd ask to be on.

I went in with an ACL, a basic surgery for a doctor like Omid. And that is just how he made me feel. Like my surgery was basic to him, like it was nothing. The amount of face time is quite disappointing. My first appointment lasted less than 30 minutes from the time I parked to the time I left in my car with about 5-10 minutes of actual talking. He doesn't seem to care much for bedside manner. As for the surgery, I believe it went ok. I don't feel like I am healing well, but that just could be because I had surgery and a torn ACL. Overall he left me feeling uncomfortable, like I was a bore. But I guess my knee is fixed now.

I went in with a shoulder injury (apparently some sort of rotator cuff injury) in a lot of pain. He may see this every day, but for me it was a shock - I am not able to do basic things and it had become very painful during the night. He came in with another doctor who was never introduced, nor was his presence explained. I just hate that. If the guy is in training or something, at least just say so. Dr. Reza asked a few questions and seemed fairly dismissive - he said he would do an MRI in 6 weeks after therapy. As he was going out the door, I asked if was anything I could do in the meantime, and he basically just said no, beyond therapy. Therapy has been good for a few hours after treatment, and then it just goes back to bad or worse. I don't even know what all of that means. Is this a non-treatable injury? Why live with the pain for 6 weeks before deciding what is wrong? I don't really get it. Anyway, he might be a great surgeon or whatever, but my initial impression was… fairly poor.
