I truly cannot come up with the right words to describe Dr. Byrd. He’s been my surgeon going on 21 years now. The man saved my life when I was 15 by pointing out to my other not so good doctors that surgery would needs to be done ASAP due to cancer developing in my colon. I had literally lived in the bathroom of my home 2 months I was so sick. Just by chance when I was having a scope done one morning,Dr. Byrd happened to be there and my other doctors asked him his opinion. My surgery was done days later and Dr. Byrd was there for me every step of the way. The care this man has showed me and my family over the last 21 has been such a blessing. He truly cares about his patients, doesn’t rush and will always do what’s best for each particular patient. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t thank God for this man In short, this is the best Colon/ Rectal surgeon not only in Baton Rouge but across the southeast. It’s been 21 years since my first surgery and I still have my internal… pouch made from my small intestines which is unheard of.

PREVIOUSLY, I HAD PROVIDED SOME VALUABLE INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT RICHARD BYRD. MY DETAILED COMMENT WAS COMPLETELY ERASED HOWEVER THE WONDERFUL AND KIND MESSAGES LEFT ABOUT HIM WERE ALLOWED POSTED TO BE READ. WHY IS THAT??

I found out that I had colon rectal CANCER in 2008!!! Other doctors I saw wanted me to have Chemo and Radiation before any was surgery was done. NON WAY. I went to Mary Bird and I was then referred to Dr. BYRD and when I saw him he made me feel comfortable and he could remove all the cancer without me having to go through Chemo. HE WAS RIGHT! DR. BYRD IS WONDERFUL and has been there for me every step of the way every time needed him over the pass 9 years over going strong. I WOULDN'T CHANGE DOCTOR'S FOR ANYTHING IN THE WORLD!

My wife as in the hospital for a blocked colon recently and was treated by Dr. Byrd. She able to avoid sugery due Dr. Byrd's excellent care.

Dr Byrd is a great doctor and surgeon, he did 3 of my colon resections and had a very gentLe hand, took time to sew my by hand instead of staples ,being I am a woman he cared enough to take that extra time so my scars wouldn't be so bad. he is my go to for any surgeries. even after moving out if state I will go thousands of miles for him to treat me.
