Dr. Richard Mauro Florio, MD

I just wanted to tell you about my experience with Dr. Richard Florio. We met Dr Florio when after he was sent images from my husbands ultra sound on a Friday night at Kaiser’s emergency room came down to the hospital from his home at 11:00pm. First I was amazed that a doctor that was not on call came out on a Friday night. Then he took the time to not only look at John’s leg but also to talk with us and not just talk but listen to our concerns about past issues that john has had with his legs and feet. John has had many operations on his feet. John was born with club feet and spent the first 16 years of his life in Shiners’ hospital having his feet broken and turned around 200 hundred miles away from his family and home. And if that wasn’t enough he had a brain aneurysm in 2001 and we spent 3 months in UC Davis Med Center. I think the first thing I noticed about Dr. Florio was his compassion for John’s feelings about being in a hospital. He could tell by the look in John’s eyes that… he was scared to be in the hospital. We explained how close we lived to the hospital and how important it was for John not to be in the hospital any longer than he had to be. Dr Florio listened to us. He called us everyday before the surgery to check on John. He explained how very rare John’s particular aneurysm was and so he took the time to talk with other doctors about John’s unusual aneurysm before he made his plan to fix it. Suffices to say we had a rare aneurysm being taken care of by a rare doctor. Dr. Florio was confident, clam and very kind. He made us feel like this was a walk in the park even though we knew it was life threatening or a possible amputation. One of the things that struck me as I watched him work was his respect for the staff he worked with. My husband has had at least 100 doctors or more in his life and hands down he has never had one as good as Dr. Florio per Johns own words. I agree with my husband. In the 32 years that John and I have been married I have had to deal with many doctors on John’s behalf. All I can say is thank God for Dr. Florio. This is not the first time John’s life was at risk and more than likely won’t be the last. It gets harder every time for me as I’m the one that has to deal with any fall out before and after the surgeries. Dr Florio was not just good with my husband but also had great compassion for me as John’s wife and caretaker. We were extremely impressed with this human being and were proud and grateful to have him on “TEAM SEIBERT” This Man is a leader of men and has an aura of compassion and kindness. My husband & I have had the need of a skilled vascular surgeon several times in recent years. Whenever we have been fortunate enough to have Dr. Florio as the on-call vascular surgeon in times of crises he has been very responsive, skilled, efficient and especially reassuring. It is our understanding that Dr. Richard Florio is currently being considered for advancement with Kaiser Permanente. We would greatly support such recognition and reward for Dr. Florio.
