Dr. Richard Gellar, MD

He may run late but it's worth the wait to be able to see him. He listens attentively, he actually care about hi patients and his patients family. He is very careful with what he prescribes and always checks for any possible I teractions. He is kind and REALLY CARES about his patients and only wants what is best for you given your current situation. I am lucky to have hi., he saved my life more than once

Have seen him for 9 months now for bipolar. He works two days of the week at the office I see (will soon be “saw”) him in. If you call on a day he’s not there, it’s rare that you hear anything back, even if he’s merely in another office. He’s taken me cold turkey off high blood pressure drugs because he’s just too out of reach to bother to call in a script. He does seem to care about my welfare but despite me repeatedly stressing what works and what doesn’t, he remains firm. It seems like he forgets things from just the last appt and I know for sure he hasn’t read my old doc’s records. Needs to retire

I always have to wait almost an hour after my appt time. He is very inconsiderate of my feelings. I suffer from anxiety & depression and currently have been looking for work since last Aug. Before leaving the only thing he cared about was paying my small balance as I've been speaking to him the entire hour about not having a job??! Had another issue that my physician and wife figured out - not him after paying tons in 2010 for nothing. Only see him for my meds period.

Saw him many years ago. Nice man but put me on Ativan before I knew what the long term effects of this were. I had panic disorder at the time and he should have referred me for treatment. Long story short, he didn't want to take me off Ativan, even though I felt I had become dependent. He was nice about it, saying I needed it for my "disorder". I insisted, and he gave me a protocol to come off it. That was the toughest month of my life, as the drug had actually created a physical/psychological dependence. After that experience I asked them to put me with another psychiatrist there, but the appointments clerk declined to do so, and the office manager would not return my phone calls. I went to a different psychiatric group, and got some great Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I am happy to say I have long since conquered the panic disorder. I have not had to see a psychiatrist for 8 years.

I saw Dr. Gellar after seeing another psychiatrist for 2 1/2 months, during which I got worse - the medicines this other psychiatrist gave me weren't working and he refused to change them - he told me that they were the best medicines for everyone!! Because my employer was covering my care, I had to wait to see another doctor who was covered by my employer. After my experience with the other dr., I was a bit nervous about seeing another psychiatrist. What a surprise I had - Dr. Gellar LISTENED - yes, he actually listened and immediately took me off the offending medicines and put me on another type of medicine - within a week, I was noticably better! Within a few weeks, I was able to face life again - I am thankful every day for Dr. Gellar. He is a thoughtful, compassionate man who listens to his patients and is willing to think outside the box that apparently hems in many of the people who work in his profession.

Average wait time about 60 minutes and it wasn't worth it
