Dr. Richard Edward Helvie, MD

Dr. Richard Helvie approaches complex neurological issue like a sleuth. He listens to a patient's concerns and symptoms, picks up the most subtle of details, and plans tests and treatments around the totality of the circumstance. In my case, and having visited my primary care doctor, an ear nose and throat specialist, and having had an MRI with no definitive diagnosis, he was the only doctor who correctly discerned that I had shingles on the vestibular nerve of one of my ears. A varicella zoster titer confirmed his diagnosis and the rest was all about working out a medication cocktail that would give me some relief. His attention to detail, experience and knowledge, quite literally saved me from agony and may have saved my life.

Wrong diagnosis!!!!!

I was referred for a nerve conduction study, most of the time I was getting the test done the doctor was having a conversation with his assistant about his car. I felt like a third wheel. When he sent the results to the referring doctor the report said it was for a different body part I went in for.

Dr. Helvie made a completely different diagnosis on my son than his other doctors did for two years before seeing him. His answer was that he has all most 40 years and they don't. I got another eval by another neurologist who shot Dr. Helvie's diagnosis down. I would not allow my son to see him any longer.

He stuck to his opinion when other doctors disagreed and he saved my life.
