Dr. Richard Hill

I wanted to share my experience with Dr. Hill. I hope it was an anomaly and is not indicative of the care Dr. Hill typically provides. Unfortunately, there were several red flags I ignored looking back. I was referred to Dr. Hill by my PCP to address my exercise induced incontinence concerns. Dr. Hill stated that I needed to have quite a few different procedures along with a hysterectomy as I had prolapse caused from multiple childbirths. I met with the PA for the surgery prep a couple weeks before the procedure and shared with her that after journaling my symptoms as they requested, my issues only seemed to occur 2 weeks of the month, mainly around my menstruation time. She didn't say anything other than this surgery was going to be life changing for me... Flag #1. My surgery was in September 2021 at St. Luke's on the Plaza. It was scheduled to be a routine procedure lasting about an hour and I was to stay in the hospital for 1 night. I was expecting 3-4 minor incisions as a robot… was being used. The morning of the procedure, the OR nurses joked that I was getting the Dr. Hill special as all his patients get the same procedure, I was scheduled to get...Flag #2. After an hour or so, my husband was told I was in the OR, all was going well and he would get an update shortly as they were wrapping up. 4 hours later, they came out and told him I had some bleeding issues they had to address. It wasn't until I was in the recovery room that we were told that my ureter was cut during the procedure, but was not identified until after all was complete. What this meant was I was cut open from my belly button all the way down to find the injured ureter which Dr. Hill repaired himself...Flag #3. A urologist never was called. Following the injured ureter, the level of care I received from Dr. Hill and St. Luke's was less than ideal. The mistakes made and the additional care needed compared to a traditional hysterectomy recovery was never received and led to irreversible damage. When I would voice my concerns to Dr. Hill or his office, I was told I needed to toughen up, I needed to take my pain meds, or I needed to be patient and let my body heal. I became septic 3 weeks after my surgery and 6 weeks post op, the repaired ureter scarred up and blocked leading to severe kidney pain. I had to reach out to an administrator at his office to get attention for the kidney pain and at this point a urologist was recommended. I ended up needing an emergency surgery to address the blockage. All in all, I have had 4 surgeries, 10 nights in the hospital, 3 visits to an ER/Urgent care, 2 ambulance rides, a stint in place for a total of 20 weeks, and finally had to have my ureter reimplanted to the top of my bladder. I had minor interactions with Dr. Hill post op and once I was referred to a urologist, I had no further communication from his office. I have spent thousands on medical expenses, seen several different specialists and missed many weeks of work. I was finally medically cleared last month at the 24-month mark post op; however, I will always be at high risk for UTIs due to my ureter re-implantation. I can once again focus on addressing my exercise incontinence issues as that problem still persists. My last urologist explained that the surgery I had would have never addressed incontinence issues, even if done successfully and I actually should have been sent to pelvic floor physical therapy instead of surgery. I now strongly encourage all who mention getting a hysterectomy to get at least 1 if not 2 opinions. I also understand mistakes happen, even by the best surgeons. However, how one manages the situation after a mistake is made speaks volumes. There was never ownership of the mistake made by Dr. Hill or St. Luke's and they even went as far as to insinuate the problems I experienced were my fault. I was offered a $300 concession from St. Luke's for my troubles though, so I guess that is something...

This office is awful! Please choose another dr if you are having issues!! They are rude, demeaning, and don't take set backs seriously. I was bleeding horribly after 4 weeks of surgery after feeling good for a week and no one would help me. They took no responsibility and wouldn't schedule me to see the dr because I saw him last week when I was ok and now with the bleeding they won't help. These are major surgeries he's performing and his staff should no better. But his nurses contradicted what the dr said and blew me off saying just go to an er when the dr drs won't know in an exam if what he did is messed up they don't have the knowledge. So please find another dr who will take care of you because this office has been horrible to me from the first issue I had after surgery.

1 year after my surgery and feeling great. Absolutely no regrets. He was the best, and he did a great job. I would send my mother to him.

I felt that Dr. Hill and his entire staff were kind and caring. They all worked as a team to prepare and school me for my upcoming surgery. I do not regret choosing him over a doctor that was recommended by by OBGYN. The first call to the other Dr was enough to tell me to look for someone else. I highly recommend Dr HIll and his team. I will write another review when my surgery is complete.

Dr. Hill yawned repeatedly through my first consultation with him. I must have bored him to death.

Dr. Hill truly cares about his patients. His bedside manner is quiet and compassionate; I feel very comfortable asking him questions and he takes the time to answer them thoroughly. I saw three doctors prior to him (with no results); his diagnosis and surgical recommendation was efficient and produced amazing results. What a life changer!

Excellent bedside manner and compassionate. One of the very few Doctors that care about his patients. Very straight forward(he tells you like it)....

After two botched surgeries by another urologist that came highly recommended, Dr. Hill fixed it all. He and his office staff provided exceptional care in the office and hospital.

I don't know how much of my review has already been printed. I do want to add that I though one of his nurses was abrasive at times, until I realized that she cared enough about my problem to feel passionate about it. I found her very courteous other times. All of his staff were very knowleagble, courteous and helpful, but the "sometimes abrasive" one turned out to be the most helpful of all. Another nurse made a special trip from another building to meet me for extra training when iA called for help. The whole experience was amost overwhelming for me, but so worth it. I'm healthy now.
