Dr. Richard Dejongh Jelsma, MD

Through other family members and my surgeries, he is very thorough, and attentive. From start before diagnosis through post operative care Dr. Jelsma and every member of his staff was very caring. They listened and answered every question in a way that I understood. I always felt like I was the only patient he cared about when I was in my appointments, pre-op and post-op settings. I never felt rushed, and feel like he is one of the few doctors along with each staff members in his office that truly care about my care.

The most complete orthopedic doctor I have ever dealt with. Very up-front with telling you what should be done and more important what should NOT be done.

He is willing to take the time to discuss your situation and options with you. Also seems ver knowledgeable about his field of expertise.

When I called Dr. Jelsma's office, I explained why I was calling, and the Receptionist/Scheduler got me in in 2 days. This office genuinely understands "customer service." I'm giving him 5 stars. The entire office earned it!

Based on my experience I would not recommend Dr. Jelsma. If what he performed looks good, he is not concerned about anything else. You could be dead, but at least the incision looks good! He does good work, but needs to be more though with customers by providing detailed post op instructions.

I had a lot of pain in my knee when I was exercising. I could barely walk. I was sure something serious was wrong. Dr. Jelsma got an MRI and assured me that nothing looked seriously wrong. Told me to rest it, and take some advil. I couldn't believe that something so simple could work. I had been to another doctor who told me I needed to have my knee scoped. It is a relief to find someone who will give you an honest opinion.
