Dr. Richard S Limbird JR., MD

My wife recieved a hip implant done by Dr. Limbird in 2007. In 2010 the product was pulled off the market. The Depuy Pinnacle hip. Shortly after the recall it became common knowledge in and outside of the medical community what severe damage this implant was causing patients. It is my opinion that Dr. Limbird could have researched which patients were implanted with this hip. But he didn't. If Dr. Limbird had notified my wife when it was learned what kind of bone, tissue and organ damage the implant was causing, she could have elected revision surgery, instead of suffering severe bone and tissue loss and organ damage all caused by metal on metal implant failure resulting in metallosis. I watched her suffer for years. None of her doctors could detect the issue until her last orthopedic surgeon found the culprit. Dr. Limbird is and was not legally obligated to notify the patients that he implanted this Depuy hip in. But it's dead wrong. All the aforementioned is my opinion. But let it be… said, I would not recommend this doctor to anyone, ever.

Poor bedside manner. He did a lousy job under difficult circumstances. A year and a half after surgery, I am in constant pain with the new knee.

This guy knows his stuff. I can walk without the horrible pain from my knees. Dr Limbird did them both, a year apart from each other. I am so happy that I saw this doctor! I got a referral from my mother in law who had both hips since by him. Thank you Doc!

He was abrupt and insulting to me. I left his office in tears. I am over weight but not extremely so. I felt belittled. I have since see another doctor and have scheduled surgery with him. I am aware Dr Limbird is considered an excellent doctor but I am an RN and I feel trust and respect are important. His staff were efficient and respectful. He was recommended by a physician friend.

Dr. Limbird has saved my life and is my hero! God bless him. Thank you eternally.

Mine was hip replacement and that was ten years ago. He is wonderful. Have had no trouble at all with the hip. I was fortunate and greatful for his excellent service to me.

I found Doctor Limbird a very soft spoken man. He spoke to me about what is going to take place about replacing the hip joint. When I was ready for surgery he came to see me to make sure and marked the hip so there would be no mistake of which hip. He spoke to me and made sure I was relaxed and when I wake up he told me he would come to see me and he did. My right hip will probably get done either this year or next. From the back, my knees and my feet, the left hip is the only place I have no pain. The only down fall that I find is when he talks about my weigh. We all know the weight is a problem, if there is a big problem about weight causing problems about getting the surgery done, then that is a good time to discuss weight. when he talks to me about my weight I just tell him I know I need to lose a few and lets get back to the hip and he does. I find him a well mannered soft spoken man and yes I will return to him for the right hip.

Kudos & Accolades: I cycle 6,000 miles a year. The year that I broke my hip I was on track for 10,000 miles. It was devastating to say the least. The E.R. solution was a Band-Aid that fell off. The more that I asked around, Rickâ??s name kept popping up, even with other surgeons. My wife & I had scores of questions each on the initial visit and by the time Rick got done we had only one question between the two of us. We were blown away. Every one of his staff were polite, had cheerful smiles, up-beat, knowledgably and at the top of their field. I never had one item go unaddressed during pre-admission, while at the hospital or at any of the follow-up visits. The surgery was the minimally least invasive approach which gets you back on the road to recovery in the shortest time ( not something youâ??ll get everywhere ). Due to the removal of â??prior hardwareâ?? the recovery took a little longer but Rickâ??s optimism got me back on a stationary trainer in two weeks and within 60… days I was back â??on the roadâ?? logging miles and riding with other cyclists that I never thought that I would be riding with ( at least this year ). The last three day weekend I logged 175 miles. I am MOST pleased with my progress. My hat is off in a very big way and a High-Five to DR. Limbird & University Orthopedics !!

His office staff is extremely rude. They are quick with a attitude. They don't return phone calls. How a well known doctor can have people like this in his office is a big problem.

Dr. Limbird is very confident in what he does and is an excellent surgeon. I highly recommend him for your orthopedic surgery if needed.
