Dr. Richard Douglas Matthews, MD

Dr Doug Matthews has a good reputation (partially due to following in his fathers footsteps). I’m still in recovery from a Colectomy and I have had awful follow up with his office. I have had some problems after coming home from the hospital and spoke with 1 of his P.A.’s. His office staff has been curt and condescending and referred me to my primary care doctor for a change in my pain meds. (Pain meds doctor prescribed at hospital we’re not working). I’m still having problems but after my experience with his staff I don’t think another phone call will help. They still haven’t returned my call from last week. So, I’m disappointed. Too many good doctors have no clue when it comes to staffing good people or running a business.

Dr Matthews was my continuing surgeon after a horrible assault left me using a colostomy bag, when it came time for the possibility of reversals I’ was taken care of by Dr Matthews. He took excellent care of me also repaired a hernia and I was really glad that he is my surgeon. He knows his stuff.

Amazing dr and team. So happy we drove to Chico (from Redding) to have Dr. Matthews do my husbands surgery. He had a colon resection and a gallbladder removal. He spend all the time we needed with us and was very much about patient care. Excellent choice and excellent surgeon.
