Dr. Richard Boyd Merrick, MD

Dr Merrick spent very little time understanding what my issues were and acted like he had no interest in what I had to say. His treatment plan did nothing for my issues. Maybe if he would have listened more to what I had to say, I could have received better treatment. I will not be going back to this doctor.

I don't usually write reviews for doctors, and we saw this doc quite awhile back but I didn't ever get to thank him. I have a child with complex developmental and mental health issues. Taking him to a new doctor -- let alone, a new building -- is an exercise in extreme patience to all involved. Most doctors -- even psychiatrists -- get very short with him, which kicks up his anxiety even more making the visits agonizing for both him and me, as aggression soon follows. For this reason we end up having a hard time getting him to the doctor for important health treatment. My son had wax impaction that was making hearing difficult and causing discomfort. This very kind doctor waited and talked through my son's anxiety about the instruments, the room, etc, never once showing any signs of being angry or flustered. No one held him down or forced anything. The procedure itself was immaterial (though he was able to remove a good deal of wax) because my son left the building calmly and… not eloping terrified of that hospital and ENT doctors, thus making it possible to return, should we ever need to. I sincerely appreciate what he did.

My sons inner ear was bleeding and full of dried blood. I had concerns and questions but as soon as Dr. Merrick came in and looked in his ear he said give to give drops and come back in a few weeks. Then he started walking out. I wanted to know what happened and why he thought it was infected but I barely had time to ask any questions. He was in and out in two minutes. He cares more about pumping out patients for more money than he does about his patients.

I have not had my procedure done yet but he was so kind and gentle. Very knowledgable and explained everything slowly and in detail.

I have never felt so uncomfortable with a doctor as I did this man. He was very abrupt. He did not smile once during the entire visit. I felt like he did not even want to be there. I will definitely not be going back to him and will advise anybody with an ENT problem to not go to him. He might want to consider retiring as he seems to have lost his compassion, if he ever had any.

Dr. Merrick spent twenty minutes talking about fishing in Minnesota. My husband doesn't get out much so this was a special treat for him. Dr. Merrick showed compassion and respect to an old farmer.
