Dr. Richard Scott Rosenthal, MD

All of these reviews are accurate. He rushes through appointments and asks all his patients the same generic questions. It seems like he could care less, his tonality is disrespectful and rude. Not sure why UAB would even keep him around.

If I could rate him 0 stars, I would. You can tell he is just in it for the money and does not care about his patients. He told me "you may have some cancer in your thyroid but I'm not worried about it, we will just do another ultrasound in 3 months." The mass in my thyroid keeps growing and it's getting to the point I feel like it's choking me. Refused to biopsy it or do anything about it. Safe to say I am finding another endocrinologist.

For anyone reading this DO NOT waste your time going to this doctor!!!!! Was one of the worst experiences I have ever been through! No compassion! Rude! Acted like I was bothering him and a waste of his time! Would never make eye contact with me and just sat there typing on his computer the whole time. He informed me there was nothing wrong with me and he didn't know why I was there!! I told him some of my test results from my obgyn came back abnormal and she said I would need to see an endocrinologist. He said "I don't know why she told you that, there is nothing wrong with you!" He then preceded to inform me it just sounds like I have "Woman issues" and "Did I know what Weight Watchers was?!" He told me that he would send me for routine blood work but he was sure it wouldn't indicate anything. The only time he was cordial was when I was leaving and he told me "Thanks for being on time." I held it together as best I could while I was there finishing up blood work. Once I got to my… car was a different story! It just hit me all of sudden how blatantly rude, arrogant and misogynistic he was towards me. I had a good cry! But I'm not going to let this horrible experience keep me from trying to find the right doctor!

After a couple of years of stable thyroid levels, I began to experience symptoms of low thyroid. Lab results showed a thyroid hormone level well into the hypothyroid range. Dr Rosenthal dismissed the lab results our of hand, claiming that labs other than that at UAB were inaccurate. He claimed that my symptoms were due to an unknown, undiagnosed, alternate illness and referred me back to my primary care provider. He offered no explanation or evidence for his opinion. When I asked for clarification his only answer was "I'm the endocrinologist". Don't waste your time with this man.

Good Dr. Can sometimes get agitated but overall a good Dr.

Dr.Rosenthal is the rudest Dr that I have ever met. He has no bedside manner. He does not take time to listen to his patients he comes in sits down and starts typing on his computer. He was extremely rude to me and my daughter. I would not recommend him to anyone. He definitely doesn't meet the standards of other Dr's that I have had and meet at the Kirklin Clinic.

When I asked to see another endocrinologist at UAB, this doctor referred me back to my primary care doctor.

Dr.Rosenthal and staff are rude. It's a big market.Surely better dr's than this. Sickening.

Spent time discussing problem, quick response and follow up appointments. Would highly recommend.

Not impressed. Dr. Rosenthal has been one of my daughter's 2 endocrinologists for 2 1/2 yrs as she was diagnosed with Grave's Disease 1 month before starting college in Birmingham. Her first endocrinologist is thorough and a good listener but she needed a doctor where she would be living, to order and monitor lab work. That's all Dr. Rosenthal did for 2 years. My daughter wasn't too impressed but didn't have to deal with him much. After taking methimazole for a year she went into remission for 18 months but symptoms recently began again along with thyroid enlargement. He told her her lab results are fine and the thyroid is not enlarged so it's not a thyroid problem. The symptoms are very much like she had 3 years ago before diagnosis and she can physically tell her thyroid is larger! The lab results have been slowly creeping back toward hyper over 6 mos time and just haven't crossed out of his normals. When the results do show hyper, as they will soon, his only treatment options are … RAI ablation or surgery. Her other doctor was willing to try methimazole again. possibly for a longer term since a low dose had been very effective with zero side effects during that year. He dismissed her knowledge of her own body and suggested she get an appointment with a GP for her symptoms.
