Dr. Richard Alan Shubin, MD

Two very disappointing experiences with Dr. Richard Shubin and Medical Assistant Natasha at Arcadia Neurology. Dr. Shubin was referred as an expert in MS neurology so my mother and I were looking forward to meeting with him. He did not greet us/introduce himself, barely made eye contact when talking/asking questions, checked his phone multiple times instead of listening, started stressing the importance of taking pharmaceutical drugs before performing a full assessment/history of the patient, seemed upset when we asked questions, and took an often condescending tone. This entire interaction occurred with his office door wide open, allowing others to hear very personal information being shared. After a tense, uncomfortable, and short meeting with Dr. Shubin we were sent over to the Medical Assistant. Natasha also did not greet us and seemed very annoyed with our mere presence when discussing next steps. When only 1 test was scheduled with radiology, we called the office to ask if this… was correct as we were under the impression there would be more. Natasha was rude and short on the phone but confirmed the correct test requests were sent to our insurance/radiology. Fast forward a few weeks, we are scheduled to meet with Dr. Shubin to discuss the results of the tests. He quickly runs through a list of personal questions again with the door open in an office that has very little privacy. He then mentions radiology failed to do all the necessary tests and we would need to go back to get the correct test done as well as come back to his office another time to have him share the results. This was upsetting to hear as this meant paying another pricey co-pay and seeing him again which we had very little interest in. Why didn't they just call us and tell us this? We were confused how this mix up even happened and asked Natasha if she could share a copy of the request she sent to insurance/radiology originally as both our insurance and radiology confirmed only one test was requested, not the two Natasha claimed were requested. Dr. Shubin stated they were too busy and they refused to provide the file to show what tests they requested. It was clear a mistake was made on their end but they were adamant on placing blame elsewhere and very unapologetic. We came to a mutual agreement that results would be mailed so we would not have to interact again. We truly wish we had seen the several other negative reviews about this office (Arcadia Neurology), staff, and Dr. Shubin online as we would not have wasted our time or money. Find an office, staff, and Doctor that respects you, treats you well, and does not make costly/time consuming mistakes.

Trying to get an appointment with this doctor is next to impossible. You are connected to their voicemail which is seldom checked. Calls may or may not be returned the same day. You cannot speak to a live person about getting an appointment without being referred to their automated voice mail. Very frustrating.

I can't even describe my disdain for this incompetent man!

This guy handled my MS the majority of my life. This man back big pharmaceutical for his own financial benefit. He knows darn well disease modifying drugs don't help us. How can they if there is no known cause for this issue. Well after 25 years of being an "MS" patient, I self researched my way out of it. I was told I'd always be in a wheelchair and the only thing that would help me are those useless poisons. Well I fully conquered MS and mobile again since releasing myself from his care. Please do your own research because mainstream medicine has exploited our disease. Drugs are not the answer! There are valuable alternatives out there. Be aware and stay away from this clueless doctor Richard Shubin!!

I love this office and the staff. Therected always very nice. I love the environment very relaxed.

Dr. Shubin himself is a great practitioner. He is extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and spends time with his patients to ensure that he understands their issues. His treatment approach is careful and considered, with an eye to avoiding over-treatment and unwanted drug interactions. Truly a fantastic doctor. *However*, dealing with his office staff is such an incredible nightmare that it has made me seriously consider leaving Dr. Shubin's practice. Aside from the live receptionist who answers the main number, Dr. Shubin's office staff (his nurse and secretary) never answers their phones. Voicemails to them are routinely ignored, and repeated messages rarely result in a returned phone call. For instance, I have recently switched insurance, and am trying to get Dr. Shubin's office to initiate a prior authorization for a CPAP machine. I have been calling the office for a week, leaving messages about this request, and am still waiting. In short, if you choose Dr. Shubin as your… neurologist, you will receive an extremely high standard of care from the doctor, but expect a very frustrating experience from the office staff.

I've never had a drs office where no one answers the phone or calls back within the day.You get through to the front desk but they transfer to his secretary.Maybe 1 out of a hundred they answer.You just wait if they do call back.I shouldn't have to pester to get something.If you are that darn busy hire another girl.It has actually given me a migraine having to deal with getting my meds and an appt.My daughter had been getting headaches.Almost 2 months for her to get seen there.Called another Nuero and she got seen the next dam day and the guy is busy too.She had 4 appts in that 2 month time span I would have waited.And she's migraine free now.I shouldn't have to go to urgent care or er cause I have a migraine.What good are you if you can't help? It's just become laughable.He is a good dr though but trying to even get an appt will make you pull out your hair.Look for someone who answers the phone and has an appt within a decent time frame otherwise you will suffer for a while if you… have problem.I don't want to have a serious problem and get screwed cause I have to wait months to get seen there.Just shop around as I say and this place shouldn't even be an option for sick people

Once you see Dr. Shubin you can get an appointment every 4 weeks. He is very prompt in getting you in to see him. His staff is very courteous. He gives the most accurate diagnosis of any doctor I have seen. His Bedside Manner is very good. He spends time with me. He gives great referrals in San Gabriel County, He Follows up with me very well. He is a 5 star doctor and one of the best doctors I have seen.

Dr. Shubin is a great doctor but as the years have gone by, he has now spred himself too thin. He spends less time with his patients and though I had referred four people too him, at three of the four said he was cold and indefferant. Spred too thin...you fill in the gaps. As long as you fit into a profile, he is good but if you do not, come back in 6 weeks and forget about getting back to you. He has too many things to do. I no longer see him.

HAD HARD TIME GETTING STAFF TO CALL BACK FOR APPOINTMENT. STAFF CALLED BACK AFTER 4 FOUR DAYS! I MISSED CALL HAD TO WAIT BUT NO CALL BACK. WALKED IN TO OFFICE TO MAKE APPOINTMENT STAFF NOT PROFESSIONAL.HAD TO WAIT TO MAKE APPOINTMENT. STAFFTO BUSY TALKING ABOUT WEEKEND AND NOT ANSERWING PHONE. I POOR RUN OFFICE I WOULD TERMINATE DOCTORS STAFF AND REPLACE STAFF!
