Dr. Richard P Stechel, MD

I’ve been Dr Stechel’s patient for about 35 years. I have significant and complicated cardiac issues. I credit him with keeping me well. He is very conservative (slow to push for procedures) and extremely knowledgeable, and quite self-confident. His demeanor is always professional, although he is not what I would call a very warm person. But he definitely provides world class care and advice. He is also highly respected by his peers, and that helps when it’s necessary to involve other physicians.

HORRIBLE: This Dr. is part of the medical industrial complex. My 90 y.o. mom had a "mild" heart attack and was 100% better the next day. SADLY for her, Dr. Stechel was on duty (NS Hospital) and claimed she needed Angioplasty and stent. In our conversation he denied EVIDENCED-BASED research that showed no benefit to surgery over drugs for a patient like my mom existed. READ THE FACTS (2019): A large, international study led by Stanford and New York University found that invasive procedures are no better than medications and lifestyle advice at treating heart disease that's severe but stable. She survived the Angiplasty procedure and it was determined NO STENT NECESSARY! These Dr.s need a dose of IMPLEMENTATION SCIENCE. Stop relying on 30 year old info...rely on EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE!!! Don't know if Docs like Stechel are stubborn old school or if there is an overwhelming profit motive. Either way, WATCH OUT!
