Dr. Richard Julius Szabo, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Richard Szabo for at least 7 years now, and am really proud to say that he is the best physician that I have ever seen in my 6 decades on this earth. My exposure to his abilities and compassion began in the spring of 2009, when he had to treat my late wife at the Kaiser facility on Sand Canyon in Irvine. Both my late wife and I felt that here is a man who not only enjoys his profession, but also sincerely cares for the well-being of his patients. Once I developed some urological issues, my primary referred me to Dr. Szabo, and since then, have seen him twice a year for follow ups, and believe me, each visit has been rewarding to me personally as he always makes it easy for the patient with his sense of humor and dedication. I will highly recommend his services based on my experiences and observations of his skills, professionalism, knowledge, honesty, sincerity, kindness, and down-right humanness. He is undoubtedly the best care provider I have ever… had. Thank you, Dr. Szabo.

I have been a patient of Dr. Szabo for over 3 years. He has been an excellent Urologist for me. He has done multiple biopsy's on my prostate due to the start of prostate cancer and has been monitoring it for over 3 years. Each one has been very successful with no side effects or down time. He actually does a very complicated and new procedure which allows him to take samples in areas of my prostate which are very difficult to reach. On top of that, he diagnosed cancer in my bladder and preformed a very successful surgery to remove the cancer and has been monitoring on a quarterly basis. He basically has saved my life. I am very grateful to have such a professional, experienced and caring Doctor of his caliber in my life. Thank You Doctor Szabo, you truly are a blessing.

Dr. Szabo is a God-sent to me. He has done surgery on me and repaired my ureter that was accidentally cut by another doctor. His wealth of knowledge, professionalism, compassion, and care has helped me recover and allowed me to be productive in my life again. He has genuine concern for the well-being of his patients. He does not rush me through appointments, but instead, patiently explains my condition in detail and gives me the reasons behind the treatment he thinks is best for me. This has given me peace of mind knowing I am being treated by a competent and caring physician. He has done several follow up procedures on me like putting a stent on my ureter, and regularly replacing the stent when necessary, and each time he makes every effort to make it as painless as possible. Dr. Szabo diagnosed me (70 years old) with advanced prostate cancer well over 2 years ago. 2 other doctors missed the severity of my prostate cancer because they relied more on blood work and not a biopsy. Dr. Szabo performed the biopsy and suggested i meet with a staff member for various options. We chose radiation and even though it was 38 treatments and the trip from San Clemente to Ontario was not fun - it was life saving. After 2 years following radiation, my psa is now undectable and i don't need to visit him for 1 year. He called me his miracle.

I recently had an operation addressing Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia more definitive: roto rooter procedure. Prior to the operation Dr Szabo well prepared me for what I was in store for. I had many reservations and questions regarding the +'s and -' s of this procedure. The concerns were all addressed by Dr Szabo who was well aware of my concerns. He said "you have to do something about your condition before it becomes too severe to operate. He got me to use the cathether (every 5 hours) a week before the operation was performed. I got to be pretty good at doing it but it became obvious doing this daily was not the best route to take. To make a long story short, I had the operation with the best explanation of the result being a "rebirth". I no longer had to plan my day around where a bathroom was. Prior to the operation it would take 5+ minutes to pee., in many cases I would have a panic situation where I needed a bathroom "now" and when I got there I could hardly go. Frustrating to… say the least. As I was waiting to "go " I mentally said "a thimble full is better than nothing" while everyone was waiting for me to emerge. The after operation experience went just as Dr Szabo stated. Overall result was that I can now hose off the driveway and chip the porcelain in the bathroom. My only regret is that I did not have this operation performed 2years ago. Stated again, a "rebirth" was the result. I very much appreciated Dr Szabos skill. Dr. Szabo is a fantastic doctor. He saved my life. I had bladder cancer 7 years ago and he removed the bladder and prostate gland. His staff is very special. They work together as a team and are very patient with difficult patients like me. I had never had any surgeries in 68 years and had a lot of anxiety. His nurses are like angels. Dr. Szabo takes the extra time to explan the procedure, show you the xrays and results and has a great deal of compassion. He is the best...I see him once a year now and it's like family when you go in.

I am sure he has some skill as a surgeon,but the rest of his delivery is horrible. We waited hours to see him, which probably is not his fault, surgery, but he came in and had no willingness to listen to the problem, changed the diagnosis from another doctor the year before without an explanation or an exam and then dismissed everything we brought up as without merit. He then said, I am not the Dr. to treat you, and walked out. If you wish to have a God as your doctor, you found the right Dr. but if you are looking for someone who will try to solve your health issues by keeping you informed and suggesting alternative treatment, stay away.

Dr. Szabo answered my questions without "talking down" to me. Left clear Patient Instructions, and left me feeling I was in good hands. I'm glad he is my urologist.
