Dr. Rima Fazal Makhiawala, MD

Dr. M performed my hysterectomy, and I have nothing but compliments for her. She is an excellent physician and went out of her way to perform my procedure laparoscopically.

I find it very hard to believe these other posters are talking about the same Dr. Makhiawala that I’ve experienced. I don’t think I’ve come across a more competent and compassionate doctor in any field, and I see a lot of specialty doctors. Dr. Makhiawala is thorough and takes her time with me in every appointment to make sure all of my questions and concerns have been addressed. She is supportive and empathetic and offers whatever solutions she can to make my pregnancy more comfortable. I enjoy seeing her so much I look forward to each appointment with her.

As a health professional myself for many years working in women's health I found Dr Makhiawala rude, judgemental and pushy . She displayed an arrogance not only unprofessional but disrespectful. She lectures and does not listen to the patient . Regarding her idea of health teaching I found her explanations were presented in a superior manner and not completely accurate . She was condescending towards me and insulted me with her choice of words and superior attitude . She indicated "in her opinion" that the appointment was not appropriate for "someone my age"and she preferred to talk more about how my insurance would not pay for the examination. She basically told me that she did not want to provide the service which I was entitled to because of her beliefs based on her current realm of information. I informed her that I had called my insurance company prior to the appointment and was pre-approved by my insurance company . She continued to remind me that I would be accountable for the… entire bill if they denied payment. She was argumentative and persistent on her view . She showed no empathy toward me and her comment( "Oh I seem to have upset you ") was the last straw. I felt insulted and judged by her and found her treatment of me very cold and unprofessional. I believe as a healthcare professional the relationship between any healthcare professional and patient should be built on respect in order to establish a relationship of trust. I would not recommend her to anyone that I know based on my experience. My insurance did cover the entire bill of this visit minus the copay as I knew it would. All of her arguments and reasons which she presented to me during that appointment have all been proven wrong. She needs to listen more and speak less.

I was admitted into the hospital for severe abdominal pain and fever related to a post delivery infection. I turned down additional opioid pain meds offered when admitted as the Dr's in triage expected that my pain would go away after the antibiotics kicked in. 12 hours later the pain was still awful so I requested the meds that were offered earlier. But Dr Rima flat out accused me of not really being in any more pain that should be expected 4 weeks after a c-section (even though I felt pretty great the two weeks before that) and accused her 2 colleagues in triage of over reacting when they admitted me. She then refused to give me anything other than Tylenol and Ibuprofen and even told our nurse that I was not in that much pain. I couldn't believe the difference between her and the other handful of Dr's I have seen at IHA over the years who have done a fantastic job working on delivering our children and taking acre of us afterwards. As a result I sat in the hospital room in pain for… an extra 8 hours after requesting additional meds (that were offered to me 12 hours before that!). Only after my husband complained did they send in the other Dr on call who immediately gave me a pill to ease my pain. Over the next few days and a couple other antibiotics everything was back to normal. But I definitely did not like the insinuation that I was lying or was not in enough pain for her to care. A Dr should never tell anyone what level of pain that can deal with or accuse them of lying after knowing them for under 5 minutes.

Brilliant physician, but no bedside manner. Intellectual arrogance with patience. Gets irritated if you ask questions...gives you challenging eye contact and huffy response. Not easy to talk to.

Horrible doctor! She doesn't care about you or your baby. She likes taking the easy way out of everything!

She was very thorough and thoughtful. Took her time to listen to me and answer my questions.
