Dr. Robert William Baloh, MD

I saw dr balou a few years ago. He misdiagnosed me with mal debarkment and told me no treatment or cure. I was devastated and caused me horrible emotional pain. And he was wrong , as I got proper diagnosis and treatment later. I would not recommend this dr.

Dr Baloh is one of the worst doctors I have ever seen. His bedside manner needs vast improvement. He diagnosed me with MDDS and told me to go do some Tai-Chi -he only spent about 20 minutes with me and that was it. No follow up phone call or even a letter to see how I was doing. Think he just needs to retire or go find another profession. He said stay away from Social Media support groups which has been a lifesaver for me..oh and his office billed my insurance company 925.00 just to tell me to go do some Tai-Chi. Again, if you are looking for a good doctor f you have vertigo or vestibular disorders you might as well keep searching. Do not waste your time.

Dr Baloh prescribed anti depressants when i went to see him regarding inner ear inflammation which was causing extreme dizziness. The Dr does not bother to look at your test results and doesnt let you get a word in edgewise. Nothing he says makes any sense. I got a second opinion and was prescribed an anti inflammatory and my problem cleared up within a month. All Dr Baloh knows how to do is prescribe anti depressants. Extremely incompetent Dr.

Uncanny ability to diagnose. Genuine concern for patient well-being. Responds to patient inquiries in record time.

Baloh was gruff and brief, and certain I had headaches I could "not feel" and recommended an antidepressant for severe lifelong vertigo. He was 100% incorrect. I have a genetic disease without cure, and his recommendations made things much worse. He did not absorb family history. There is no cure for my disease. He was a part of my losing the best years of my life. Not a chance of recovery. I'm pretty sure he has not given this a second thought. Tragic. But it's mine. My mistake was going to him at all. : (( Some Ataxia is a sign of something more serious. But not to him. I was dismissed and that was that. His rating should really be a zero.

Dr. Baloh is very knowledgable about vertigo, menieres, migraine, genetics of different kinds of migraines (hemiplegic migraines) and the genetics of other ear related diseases (Connexion 26 related deafness, etc.). He is very easy to talk to and is interested in the patient. The only problem is you can not get a follow up visit! You have to wait 5 years!! He is available only for consultationb.

Dr Baloh is truly at the top of his field: anything to do with the inner ear, vertigo, balance or tinnitis. He has seen it all, done it all, has written numerous textbooks, and is actively involved in the latest research. From this rather Olympean height, he supervises a group of smart and eager young docs and interns that do most of the hands-on work. He will not spend a lot of time with you, and he is tough to get an appointment with, but if you have a really puzzling problem, 5 minutes with him are worth more than any amount of time with anyone else. He has a very good bedside manner and will be happy to discuss issues with you at considerable technical depth, if you come prepared. Beyond that, I truly feel after talking to him that I understand not just the facts about the problem but also some of the intuitive knowledge about it that Baloh knows that takes 40 years of practice to get. Basically, this is the guy to which everyone else refers their most difficult cases for a… second opinion. This is the big guns: you don't always need it, but when you do I cannot recommend him enough.P.S. Appointments are *not* easy to get. To start with, you need a referral from a specialist, not from a GP. After reading the rest of the review, I think you'd understand why.
